What is the purpose of using Jyotish and Body-Centered
Expressive Art Therapy together? Through the mixture of Jyotish insights and the frame of Body-centered Expressive Art Therapy, I help my clients grow in awareness of their unique inner/outer life journey. Because life is an entirely creative pursuit, we, as humans, would not be alive without the creative impulses of life. Literally shakti, the spark of creative energy, brought our soul into existence. The rest of this lila (the drama/play of life) is entirely up to us to create. This is a general theme of our existence. We are here in a human form to create- from nothingness- and from simple awareness and desire, all possibilities arise. Since the beginning of human existence, there has been art. Historically, art is what has helped communities and individuals thrive, grow and unify. Art has been both a practical tool of survival as well as a spiritual one. Art has brought communication on every level of awareness- through the unspoken, the felt sense, the imagination and the spiritual realms. Art makes the unseen, seen, and it unifies the individual and group experience of life. I often think how amazing it is that we have unlimited, vast potential, and yet for many, this will not amount to much growth, wisdom, change or transformation in this life. Though there are many reasons for this limited experience of life, it is through the arts that we can cultivate our creative abilities and work with bringing nothingness into form, imagination into a work of art, desire into flexibility and new awareness. My Masters studies of Body-centered Expressive Art Therapy have illuminated the possibilities and potentials for my creative self. Body-centered Expressive Art Therapy (or EXA for short) is known as a brilliant tool for helping to create both individual and group transformations in all areas of life. My work with jyotish brings the individual’s life purpose into focus, gives it a context- creatively, spiritually, dharmically, emotionally and mentally. Combining these two bodies of work maximizes what can be accomplished and creates a clear frame within to work with the vastness of the creative, artistic realms. What can this Jyotish + EXA work offer me? Together, we can identify issues and themes that are present in your life experience. Together, we can find resources, solutions, possibilities, awareness, receptivity, growth, and change for your journey. With the arts and an intermodal approach to the work (multiple artistic mediums), creativity can be cultivated, moved, transformed, resourced, and utilized as a catalyst for change. This work uses your body as the center, the catalyst, and the messenger that informs the process. Working with a body-centered approach to the expressive arts cultivates a very integrated awareness, developed through, and with, your unique body and its patterns, rhythms and imprinted stories. The body is a perfect historical documentation of the past; it contains the stories and records that are layered within the mental, emotional, physical bodies as well as the spiritual body. Working with the body as a main resource, as an entry point for the work, offers unique awareness of the somatic, sensory and phenomenological existence that you have been gifted with. The Vedic knowledge that I am immersed in, as well as ritual and Nature's wisdoms, are central aspects to my work, my life process, and my offerings. Part of what makes my approach to Body-Centered Expressive Art Therapy unique is not only my incorporation of Jyotish, but also the Vedic knowledge that I utilize in my daily life. I can't separate this from my work or my sessions. Find out more about me and my background. Who can be helped with this work? This work is both for those who are already heavily engaging in the arts, as well as for those who feel they have no creative bones in their body. The beauty of the creative process is that it is just that, a process. When we explore the process itself, we can learn a great deal about life and our innate wisdom. When we embrace the product that arises from the process, we also gain insights into what we can create, materialize and manifest into life. This work is both about process and product, and not about analyzing, provoking, concocting, forcing, manipulating, dissecting or judging what comes. With deep compassion, clear guidelines, and the intelligence of the body and its innate creativity, we watch what arises. Simple as that. We watch what emerges and work with that. We dance with it, create with it, sit with it, sing with it, paint with it, write with it, be with it. We work with what is and what comes. We resource with the known and unknown, cultivating new presence. We find the resources that are everywhere in this existence and are already tapping us on the shoulder, waiting patiently for us to notice them. Nature offers her gifts constantly. Our creative process and product, can be the illumination along the way. Jyotish offers the map, the art gives the important road signs to us. Together, these two bodies of knowledge create an unlimited opportunity for personal growth and expansion that can enhance our life in a myriad of ways. Before your first session, think about these questions: What are your intentions for life? What has been disappointing? Why do you wish to expand your creativity? What are you creating or what would you like to create in your life? What are your greatest desires? Are you a closet artist- one that wishes to open your unique artistic channels but thinks this is impossible? Do you often say that you are “not an artist and never could become one?” Are you a product artist who is burnt out and has lost his/her creative pulse? What is your favorite medium to work with, what do you avoid? What rituals are you engaged in and how do you use them? Book your Jyotish + EXA session.
