Slow, gentle and conscious are the themes for this week's somatic awareness. Use these words to prompt your movement exploration. Focus on spine (flexibility and support) as well as pelvis (creativity, receiving and vulnerability). Notice where these two connect, support each other and provide mobility.
As Vasant Navaratri approaches, as well as the thick of spring, it is an ideal time to plant our seeds- literally and metaphorically. Intentions are powerful things, especially when we put some action behind them. Come to your drawing pad. Using the experience from your movement exploration, draw your garden in full bloom. What textures, colors and shapes are present? What images are alive? What are you cultivating and growing? What seeds did you plant? This garden allows us to work backwards so to speak. Look at your garden in full bloom. What are the pieces alive in your garden and your life as you look at it? What desires have blossomed and what efforts have come to fruition? Write them down. Write down the desires that are in bloom, the actions that are alive and visible in your garden. Then put some thought into what has to happen in order for the full blooms of summer to take place. What action steps need to take place before you bloom. What seeds must be planted in other words. There may be multiple seeds that have to be planted, what are they? Use your garden as a visual map and a reminder of what is coming; what is growing within you. The beauty of this garden is that only through time, nurturing, and letting go of the outcome, can we truly enjoy this cultivation process.

{Movement Explorations} -SJM So much movement within the planets this week. As Jupiter moves back into Ardra nakshatra, Rudra energy will be enlivened. This is a powerful and forceful energy that brings movement and changes with it. Destruction and chaos as well as emotions and anger. The symbols of Ardra are a tear drop and perspiration- the internal waters flowing; inner tides moving and offering changes. Change requires that there is an ending but also a beginning.
This week we will play with the image of "stepping into something new" and the movement and changes that come as a result of this forward momentum. Feet bring stability and grounding. They offer us the ability to "step forward" both physically and metaphorically in our lives. We sense and connect to the earth (the ultimate support system) through the souls of our feet which helps us find our overall balance, nourishment and resiliency. It's a new year and the time of Makar Sankranti in the Vedic calendar. Time to step forward with momentum and spring into new actions in order to harvest new growth, wisdom and abundance. Use the feet as a starting point for your movement exploration, but let this be a starting point only. Spine (flexibility and support) as well as chest (expand/contract and open/close) can also be important resources for self tracking this theme. Move through space starting with your feet awareness. Wake them up! Call upon them for activation! Let them move you forward! Let your feet speak to you! Then let that wisdom rise up through the rest of your body. Harvesting: What am I stepping towards? What am I moving away from? As I move forward, what do I need/want? As I close old doors, what do I need/want? What are my actions steps for growth and change? This week? This month? This year? As you think about your 2014 intentions/goals that you created last week, what image comes to you? Put this image on paper using a medium that connects to your theme. Example: water color for fluidity and change, oil pastels for commitments, collage for healing old wounds. We have been working with our warrior masks. Masking, unmasking, creating dialogue with these two pieces of ourselves. This is a new Moon week, and a powerful one at that!
As per this week's Horoscopes: New Moon is in the early hours of 11.3 at 06:50am CDT while Moon is in Libra and Swati nakshatra. Sun and Moon are in exact degree at this time with five planets in Libra (debilitated Sun, Rahu, retrograde Mercury, exalted Saturn and transiting Moon), all in Swati nakshatra. This nakshatra is ruled by Rahu, the north node shadow planet. It's important to strive for balance at this time (though it may feel impossible). This new Moon on 11.3 brings a solar eclipse with it beginning at 04:05 am CDT and ending at 09:28am CDT. And of course we are celebrating Diwali on 11.2- dedicated to the goddess Maha Lakshmi, goddess of abundance, wealth and prosperity. Pelvis is our creative energy center, our fertility zone. Use this body part for the focus of your body part dance and notice the connection to spine (strength, flexibility) that it offers. Note how these two co-create and are essentially interrelated. Come to your drawing pad and draw a big circle. Fill your circle (New Moon) with your abundant desires, prosperity and hopes. Nothing is too big, nor too small for this circle. What gifts are you asking of Goddess Lakshmi at this time? What brings balance and harmony to you and your life? Who is invited to join you on this new, sacred, abundant path? Give your New Moon Mandala a title. |
