Goals and intentions are an important part of any "new year". For 2014, I'm handling my annual "goal setting" task a bit differently. Instead of my traditional lists, I've chosen to draw them this year. In order to embody them, I've begun a process of "dancing my goals" for greater integration.
Use a large piece of paper for this task so that you can really "expand your vision." Start with a 2014 bubble in the center of your paper and continue to add important pieces of your goal list. You will notice that some goals connect or overlap. How would you like to show this connection? Continue to fill the page with your major goals for the year until it feels complete.
Then, on a separate sheet of paper, you can go into "fine detail" about each of your major goals. What needs to be done in order to accomplish these tasks? What steps need to be taken? Work backwards and really give detail to each goal in order to activate it in your awareness. What does it feel like within you once these goals are accomplished?
Identify themes for your year. What is the main goal for the year? What is the main desire inner and outer that will make your year feel successful?
The next step is the somatic integration of your goals. This is a process that may take days, weeks, months or even all year! Let this be part of the process for you. Think of one of your goals or the overall theme of your year and begin your dance/yoga/somatic movement practice. Be aware of where the goal sits within you. What body part speaks? What sensations arise? What colors and shapes materialize? Notice how you interact and respond to your goals through out your movement practice. You will drop it naturally, but pick it back up periodically and have a gentle awareness of it. Take time for self-tracking your experience and writing your "harvest" down. It will be interesting to re-visit this throughout the year!
