The March New Moon arrives on the 27th at 20:58 Mountain Time while Moon transits Pisces and the constellation UttaraBhadra. This is a particularly powerful new Moon as it marks the end of a year long cycle, and the opening of a brand new year ahead. In the Vedic Calendar, this new Moon ushers in the Vedic Lunar New Year as well. Traditionally charts are cast for the year ahead, predicting the flavor and meaning of the upcoming year-long cycle. This happens every year in the Vedic month of Chaitra. This new cycle is a Hemalamba year- markedly different than the previous Durkmukha year which was filled with challenge, calamity and obstacles. This new Hemalamba year will provide more strength, material resources and a drive to succeed in the relative plane of existence. It is a time to overcome setbacks with clarity, determination and empowerment. The ancestors, or Manes, rule this cycle, which requires that you honor your lineage and the desires of your familial line. What needs are surfacing? How can you honor your ancestors more fully? What dharmic tasks need to be honored? Pisces represents a closing door, and an opening door, as the the final sign of the zodiac. Here, endings and closure take place, while potential and the new prepare and activate. Correlating with the 12th house, Pisces also aligns with the ancestors, the portion of the chart that connects us to the spirit world and those who are not in a body. Uttarabhadrapada is ruled by Ahirbudhnya and symbolized by the back legs of a funeral cot. Endings are provoked and release is inevitable. The bridge between material and spirit worlds is being burned. Deep transformation of life and death is taking place. What are you releasing once and for all? What is dying in your self and your life? What seeds are you planting for new growth? Ahirbudhnya is the serpent of the underworld. As a Naga (a positive snake, as opposed to the Sarpas which often bring deception) there is great potential for deep, inner work and lasting inner wisdom to arrive. Nagas bring resources and Ahirbudhnya offers a wealth of inner knowledge to arrive- for those who are willing to dive deeply into unconscious and subconscious terrain. You must go beyond the surface to harvest these pearls of wisdom! The coming waxing cycle provides momentum, yet tension between forward movement and transformation. Desire and determination are strong, but the mental body will feel frustrated, stuck and overwhelmed in the process. Keep moving anyway. Your consistent action steps are vital for progress to be made. Don't get stuck in the "how" and the minutia of details. Find clear, doable action steps and keep going. Are you getting stuck in the overwhelm and inner drama- which sabotages your success? Healing can take place in this cycle with creativity and digestion. Your creative process is the key to your transformation and change. Staying stagnant, stuck and resistant to change is not conducive to life force, Shakti and new growth. Though we are still in a powerful uprooting process, you can ease this by surrendering to the release. Resisting will only intensify the pain, hardship and challenges that are surfacing. When a challenge arrives, confront it head on. It's vital that you stay alert, awake to what needs to be released, removed and let go of right now. Your ability to digest, transform and release consistently and fully, provides a powerful foundation for new seeds to take root and a deeper harvest to arrive in the coming days and months (and years!) ahead. Seek balance- inner and outer- as you move into the new, and as you let go of the old. Relationships are a big part of this journey of transformation so allow them to be your mirror for growth and change. Some healing is possible with self and with "other" through the cycles ahead. With willingness you can uproot resistance and challenges that have kept you stuck in lack and malnourishment. Get clear on your needs and make these declarations known. Speak clearly and with effectiveness. Your inner clarity will determine the clarity you feel within your relationships, and how you get your needs met on much deeper levels. What do you really need in order to feel safe, grounded, stable and supported? Communicate your deeper needs and vulnerabilities. Let others in and speak your truth. Just after the new Moon, the spring celebration of Navaratri arrives to invite in the deep transformation process taking place within and in the environment. This celebration of the Divine Mothers, ends with Ram Navami, the birth date of Lord Rama. Vasantik Navaratri begins on March 28th and concludes on April 5th for 2017. During the nine day and night Navaratri celebration, the battle between light and dark forces enlivens. This battle between light and dark, good and bad, masculine and feminine, transformation and healing, is taking place within all beings at this sacred junction point. It is a time to heal and integrate polarities within. The Navaratri celebration is an expression of what is taking place within Nature, through the Laws that govern Nature, marking an important transition within us and around us. These important junction points (know as a gap, or sandhi in Sanskrit) happen multiple times a year, however, the Shardiya, or Maha Navaratri, junction point is considered the most powerful. Spring Navaratri is called Vasantik and occurs in the first month of the Vedic Lunar Calendar, Chaitra. This is a death cycle for both Northern and Southern hemispheres. As life is being called into silence in the North, and called into action for the South. In either case, doors are opening and closing. Align with Nature and Her powerful energy of change and transformation during Navaratri. Ritualize your connections with Nature- in order to land more closely to your own inner wisdom, to Her wisdom. Strengthen your connection to self and Spirit. Read more about the power of Navaratri In the coming days, I'll be sharing a special video series about the dark goddess, Nirrti, and how to align more closely with your dharmic path and what happens when you don't! Make sure you're on my newsletter list for all the juicy details and follow along in my Embodied FB Group Creative RitualCreate a list of self care activities that nourish and support your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. Where are there holes? Where might you need more support? 1) Start with a four level check in and identify what is emerging within you right now. Then notice if you can identify a sense of nourishment somewhere in your body. What does it feel like and where dose this sense arrive within you? 2) Using craypas, paints or pencils, create an image of your nourishment. What does nourishment feel like for you? Create an image that expresses this feeling using colors, textures and shapes. Allow 20 minutes at minimum for this nourishment image. Title your image. 3) Use your image to inspire a movement exploration. Let your body move in response to your nourishment image with an intention of "moving with your feelings of nourishment". What sensations emerge for you during your dance? What awareness? Allow 5 to 10 minutes for this movement exploration. I encourage you to extend this time frame as you recycle this process. 4) Harvesting. In your journal answer these questions: I am, I want, I need, I sense, I feel, I imagine. What deeply nourishes me? What no longer nourishes me? Where do I feel support in my life? Where do I need more support? What am I opening to? What am I closing to? In the coming days, I'll be sharing a special video series about the dark goddess, Nirrti, and how to align more closely with your dharmic path and what happens when you don't! Moon Mind Calendar Saturday, April 1st Moon in 6th tithi, bright half Today, Moon transits Rohini nakshatra for the majority of the day. This is the domain of Lord Brahma and by default goddess Saraswati. This powerful creative couple expresses our immense creative power through the harmony of masculine and feminine. Together, they support the manifestation process- bringing vision into reality, desire into knowing. Growth, movement and change is possible when we use our creative intelligence to support the transformation process. Don't stay stagnant. Move, create, transform, repeat. Late afternoon, Moon shifts to Mrigashirsha nakshatra and a strengthening of movement arrives. Movement supports transformation and growth. Symbolized by deer antlers, this constellation reminds us to keep branching out in order to find the Soma, the nectar of life. Stagnation is the absence of nourishment. Keep moving, but be sure to pause and check along the way. Increase your creativity and transformation with my challenge Creative Ritual. Full Moon is at 08:53 am MST while Moon transits Leo and Uttaraphalguni, the constellation of the ancestors and powerful creative life force energy. Aryaman rules this portion of the sky, offering resources like love, marriage, family, children, and that which perpetuates the ancestral line. Life force energy is enlivened here, which brings to life desires and helps them arrive into manifest form. What seeds are you planting right now? With three planets in gandantas (powerful gaps of uprooting and change) there is much to be released before your seeds can truly take root. Saturn is transiting Mula, Rahu is transiting Magha and Mars is in Ashwini until March 19th. These gandantas notoriously cause knots in the mental and emotional bodies to be removed through transformation, upheaval and change. Often uncomfortable, these are portions of the sky that open new doors, slamming old doors shut. As we linger here in the in-between, physically and within our shadowed self, there is an opportunity to also stand in much greater possibility and potential. Deep transformation and turmoil is taking place with this full Moon and in the cycle to come. A new clarity is emerging, but not until you pull up all the weeds and uproot the parts of yourself that are holding you back from greater empowerment. There may be confusion about your power and purpose, but now is the time to create a clear path and let go of the parts of yourself that hinder you from stepping into your power more fully. Dream big! Allow yourself to expand what you think is possible for yourself. Where are you limiting yourself? What stories have you been telling yourself that keep you stuck and playing small? What is holding you back from full manifestation of your goals, dreams and desires? These mental body stories stuck on repeat in your unconscious mind, must be brought to the light, released and transformed in order for you to step into a more powerful future. These stories are keeping you from powerful action steps. Gains come when you radically release your scarcity consciousness, your lack, the parts of yourself that don't yet feel deserving or capable of greater power. How long has this painful story been on repeat? How long will you keep playing it? Use the cycle ahead to get radical, clear, focused and determined to confront your goals head on. Use this cycle ahead to get radically clear about what is in your way of accomplishment and greater power. Uproot the old weeds in your mind and plant new seeds of life and nourishment. This Full Moon also marks the Holi celebration in the Vedic calendar which often roughly coincides with the vernal equinox and the arrival of spring (for the Northern Hemisphere). The equinox arrives on March 20th this year. Holi is a Vedic fertility celebration, sparking immense life force energy, potential and creative power to enliven. Step into your Divine Feminine power! No matter the hemisphere you are in, both spring and fall are considered "sandhi" times of year- or in between seasons. These are sacred times, when the veil is thin, sensitivity is heightened, and in Ayurveda we attend to necessary physical rituals that help the body cleanse and purify. Holi comes at this sacred junction and is a time to "plant seeds" so to speak. It is a celebration of fertility, abundance and the awakening of Shakti within Nature. This full enlivening of Ma, the Divine Mother, is celebrated during Vasant Navaratri- the nine days of Mother Divine beginning March 28th this year. We can consider this her "kick off" celebration as we plant our desires and create our fruits. Let this Full Moon bring you a sense of spring and possibility. Creative Ritual My Creative Rituals are intended to support your transformation and healing process in the cycle to come. Each ritual is in alignment with the cosmic tides- in order to help you adjust, shift and move more fluidly in balance with Nature's rhythms. Recycle this ritual more than once for added benefits. Similar to exalted planets in that they are "full" and can't be "added to", a Full Moon (or Purnima) means that it is full to capacity, there's no more room for it to expand and grow; it is complete. In this way, we can interpret the Full Moon as a "New Moon" in that it marks the beginning of a new cycle of emptying itself and refilling itself (mirroring our internal process). Beginning a lunar month at the Purnima is called Suklanta and differs from starting the count from the New Moon (Amavasya) which is the point when the Moon is empty and is waiting to be filled by the Sun. Purnima is in the middle of the Lakshmi phase of the Moon cycle whereas Amavasya is the moment during the cycle where Kali and Durga meet. Clearly, the energy is quite different; mirrored in our internal experience as well. These different methods of starting the lunar calendar remind me of the saying "is your glass half empty or half full?!" When do we start our "New Moon" calendar and begin our new lunar month? When we are full and satisfied or when we are empty and needing to be nourished? It is with this question in mind that I came up with this week's Creative Engagement Activity. Read more about the importance of the Moon. Often for a New Moon or a Full Moon, I like to work with the image of a mandala. Mandalas help us to create and express fullness, to fill empty space, to work with what is. Mandalas are a container, filled, with our visions, creativity and desire- much like a metaphor for life. 1) With this idea of "creating within a container" as well as half the image of full/empty, I invite you to draw two large circle shapes on a piece of paper. Cover up one of the circles with a sheet of paper while you create within the other. 2) The theme for this first circle is "being filled". Fill in the first circle with what you desire for the cycle to come. What do you want to be filled with? 3) When you feel complete with the first circle, look at both circles on your paper. One is "full" and one is "empty". What thoughts come to you? What feelings? Then answer these statements under your first circle: I am, I want, I need 4) Next, begin working on the second circle. The theme for this circle is "being emptied". What are you releasing and letting go of as you move into the cycle to come? 5) When you feel complete, write a few notes down. What do you notice as you look at the entire piece? What thoughts come to you? What feelings? Then answer these statements under your first circle: I am, I want, I need 6) Finally, harvest your thoughts on this process. Circle ten words that leap out at you from the writing you've done. Form these words into a three to five line poem. (Adding extra words is ok). Share your poem below! * Extra credit for dancing (embodying) your images and poem at some point this week. This will depend on your relationship with your inner power and purpose. Watch My Short Video Now Wednesday, March 8th Moon in 11th and 12th tithi Ekadashi and Dvadasi Moon arrives in its own sign, Cancer just as Wednesday begins. Nourishment and equanimity arrives when Moon sits in its own still waters. However, Mars gives his gaze to the Moon and his debilitation sign, causing emotional body waves. Step into action, but move from your feeling level. Align with your emotional body wisdom and honor your needs. Find the soft landing within. Moon is in Pushya nakshatra today, bringing nourishment and abundance- through resources, guidance and support. Are you receiving the abundance of life? Where are you resisting, feeling the pinch? Thursday, March 9th Moon in 13th tithi Trayodasi Early morning, Moon shifts into Ashlesha nakshatra, the domain of the deceptive serpent, Sarpa, and Mercury, the mental body. There is a transformational quality in this portion of the sky, and often mistrust and misalignment as well. Snake energy shape shifts. What you see is not what you get. Where are you not feeling safe and supported? Who or what is keeping you feeling a lack of safety within? Where is this disconnection taking place in your body? Friday, March 10th Moon in 14th tithi Chaturdasi The changing quality of the Moon will be felt early morning as she leaps the gandanta (gap) between watery Cancer and fiery Leo, burning off excess emotion in the process. This is a delicate junction point that uproots and unties karmic knots- especially with the ancestors. As Moon arrives in Leo, it lands in the lap of Rahu. Both will dance in Magha nakshatra for the coming day, enlivening ancestral karmas, connections and insights. It’s time to let go. Time to step into your power and purpose. What is your emotional body telling you about this need? Mercury moves into Pisces today. As Mercury settles into its debilitation sign, Pisces, on March 10th, a mental body depression arrives. This impacts life path, purpose and a sense of progress. This depression with hopes, dreams and aspirations is impacted by the inner critic and past failures. Part of you doesn't trust your ability to succeed, so subconsciously there's a refusal to step forward. At the same time, this is powerful opportunity to look more closely at the mental thought patterns that are hindering your success, momentum and achievements. In order to unravel these unconscious parts of yourself, you will need extra support, guidance and resources.
