Dharma Awakening Mentorship Course- Opening Session
October, 11th 2015

Module 1: First Chakra

Module 1:  Jyotish basics. Making meaning out of your karmic map.

In the first week, we will work with houses and their meanings, planets and their indications as well as some other fine tuning details. Using your own karmic map (your natal jyotish chart) as a resource for learning, you will learn what your basic map says about this incarnation for you. Who are you and why are you here? What is driving you and what is your story?

Your chart is an expression of layers upon layers of stories. We will work with these stories in a very intentional way, using them to inspire creativity, awareness, possibility, and also as a powerful tool of identification. Using an expressive art therapy approach with our stories, we will begin to work with the power of our karmas in a more intimate way. This will be foundational for the rest of the course.

First chakra issues will be addressed, assessed and amplified. This includes themes of stability, support, moving forward, grounding, ancestral issues and familial patterns, as well as safety and security. Working with legs and feet, as well as spine, will be a primary resource for powerful movement forward.

Assignment #1: Create a map of your creative journey.

Map your creative life through a visual art piece from birth to present.  Be creative in the making of it, using craypas, collage, and/or any media you would like to use. Incorporate your training (professional or non) as well as any experiences that are creative, artistic pursuits. Map the road that has gotten you to this point.  What are the gifts you bring to your path?
After you create your map, spend some time journal writing.

Reflective Questions for Map:
  1. What are the specific gifts you bring to your journey?
  2. How do your obstacles/blocks show up on your map?
  3. How have these obstacles/blocks shaped your journey?
  4. Write out a few essential words or key phrases that describe your values.
  5. How has your path reflected these values? And how does your current work/life reflect these values?

Assignment #2:

Jyotish Basics Homework Exercise:

Look at your jyotish chart and identify these parts:

-Locate your first house. What is your rising sign? Then note the planetary ruler of your rising sign.
Where is it located in the chart? Is it exalted, in its own sign or mulitrikona? Is it in a sign that it is friendly to or an enemy or neither?

-Locate the house your Moon is in and then note the sign it is in. This is your Moon sign. Where is it located in the chart? Then note the planetary ruler of this sign. Is it exalted, in its own sign or mulitrikona? Is it in a sign it is friendly to or an enemy or neither?

-Locate the house your Sun is in and then note the sign it is in. This is your Sun sign. Locate this planet in your chart. Then note the planetary ruler of this sign.
Is it exalted, in its own sign or mulitrikona? Is it in a sign it is friendly to or an enemy or neither?

-Locate all nine planets in your chart. What houses are they in? What signs? Are they considered exalted, debilitated, mulitrikona or in their own? Or none of the above?

-Look at Jupiter and note his aspects (drishti) 5, 7 and 9 houses away from him. What houses/signs/planets does he gaze at?
-Look at the drishti of Mars 4, 7 and 8 houses away from him. What houses/signs/planets does he gaze at?
-Loot at Saturn’s drishti 3, 7 and 10 houses away from him. What houses/signs/planets does he gaze at?
-Look at Rahu and Ketu and note their aspects 5, 7 and 9 houses away from themselves. What houses/signs/planets does he gaze at?

-What is your Atma Karaka planet? Locate this planet in your chart. What house is it in? What sign?

Module 2: Second Chakra

Module 2: Jyotish wisdom and your dharma.

We will continue to build our jyotish knowledge with a more in-depth look at the signs. Using your own chart, we will address dharma and dharmic indications of the chart specifically. What does your natal chart say about your dharma and life path? For clarity about your path, we will use 9th and 10th houses of dharma and career as well as 2nd house of wealth to determine what your offering is to the world and what your chart says about making money. Further indications from the other houses of the birth chart will be included as a way to gain increased awareness about the vital resources you need for your path, your creativity, who you work with, and what your offering is to the world.

This week we amplify and address our creativity and our ability to find resources. Second chakra issues will addressed and the creativity and financial blockages that are connected to this chakra. Working with our dreams, visions, creativity and senses, as well as our vulnerability and shame, we will work with blocks and challenges that are keeping you from manifesting your self fully and abundantly. Working directly with pelvis/pelvic bowl, and the expressive arts will be a primary resource for unlocking creative potential.

Assignment #1:

Jyotish Basics Homework:

- What are the significant houses for dharma and career? What are the body parts connected to these houses?

- Locate your 9th house. What sign is there? What planets, if any? List at least four qualities of each of these layers: The 9th house, the sign located there, the planets located in your 9th house.

- What is the planetary ruler of your 9th house sign? Where is it located in your natal chart? List the qualities of these layers: Your 9th house planetary ruler, the house it is located in, the sign it is located in, any other planets sitting in that same sign/house.

- Identify what planets are in your 9th house (if any). What sign(s) does this planets rule in your chart? What are the houses these signs are in? List the qualities of these layers: The planets in your 9th house, the signs they rule and what houses these signs are in.

- Repeat this process for the 10th and 11th houses.

Creative Embodiment Homework:

Create an image of your pelvis using paint, craypas, collage or any other medium that inspires you. We will have some time in our weekend workshop to work on this image, but starting this process will give you more time for the creation process.

Assignment #2

-Identify a key learning that occurred during your movement exploration/drawing your image.
-Identify a challenge that may have arrived during your movement exploration/drawing your image.
-Identify any resources that you discovered during your movement exploration/drawing your image.
-Identify any themes from your personal mythology that you encountered during  your movement exploration/drawing your image.

*It may help to answer these questions from the point of view of the Pelvis. Let your pelvis answer the above questions.

-Bonus Question: Does your Pelvis have any insights to share with you about your purpose, your path, your dharma?

Take an action step this week that helps you create more money. What action step can you take that will help you long term or short-term create more tangible money in your life?

Module 3: Third Chakra

Module 3: Listening to the messages of Nature and working with courage.

This week we focus on the planets more specifically and also the role of the nakshatras. What do your natal stars say about your dharmic path and the offerings you are here to give to the world? How do the lunar constellations express themselves through you and what deities are assisting you and your work? Nature is here to support you, but only if you know how to work effectively with her. The nakshatras are expressions of nature and help us refine the messages of the natal chart. What is your chart asking of you and what are you missing about your life path without even realizing it?

Our Saturday workshop session will address chakra three which puts us in touch with our courage and passions, as well as our intuitive knowing and assimilation of life. To fully realize your unique gifts and talents, you must have potency and power enlivened within you and your body. This week we work directly with stomach as means for digesting, assimilating and nourishing our lives more fully and powerfully.

Assignment #1

1) Choose your 9th or 10th house to work with specifically. Identify the house you are working with and the body part connected to it (it will be thighs or knees but you can use legs/first chakra for this). Next, identify what sign is in the 9th or 10th house of your chart. What body part is connected to this sign? (we will call this Body Part #2.) You will now have two specific body parts to work with- the legs and body part #2- whatever body part is connected to the sign of your 9th or 10th house. List at least five functions for each of these body parts. For example legs/feet might connect to the functions "stepping forward", "standing" or "leaping".

2) Movement exploration. Take at least ten minutes to do a movement exploration, though I challenge you to do this process every day for the next week to increase your sensitivity and awareness. Using your legs as the primary resource, add the resource of body part #2. Begin by pulsing, sensing through the feet, bringing your attention to how the sensations of feet feel in connection to shins/calves, knees, and thighs. Explore the sensations in your legs as you continue to pulse. Self track rising up through the feet, up through the legs, and into the pelvis. Continue to pulse, but now add body part #2 to your self tracking. Notice how this body part responds to your pulsing. Notice how body part #2 moves in relationship with and to your thighs/knees/feet as you pulse. What is the function of body part #2? How does this function come into your pulsing movements?
(Revisit our Module #1 Workshop if you are feeling the need for some assistance.)

3) Harvesting. After ten minutes of your pulsing movement exploration, come to a pause. Answer these questions: I sense, I feel, I imagine. Ask your legs to answer this question: What am I stepping towards? What am I stepping away from?

Extra Growth:

- Identify your Moon nakshatra. What nakshatra is it in? What is its ruling deity and the ruling planet? Where is this planet located in your chart and how does it express itself?

(If you have a copy of your chart that is from me, you can locate your Moon nakshatra to the right of your natal chart, in the second box down from the top labeled "Planet Nakshatras". Within this box, you will see planet abbreviations in the far left hand column. Locate the MO for Moon and note the nakshatra written on the same line, next column over. This is your Moon Nakshatra. Do the same for all your planets.)

Module 4: Fourth Chakra

Module 4: Unraveling your obstacles and setbacks. Dancing with your shadows.

We will be using your weaknesses and challenges to move you forward with awareness- specifically focusing on the purpose of Rahu and Ketu. What are your greatest challenges to achieving your dharma? What is holding you back and keeping you from fulfillment? Using your chart for guidance, we will address setbacks, challenges and the detriments of your birth chart in order for awareness and guidance, as well as for best practice with these karmas.

The power of the fourth chakra ignites our ability to expand into our gifts with compassion, openness and healthy boundaries. Through the body metaphors of the ribcase, arms and hands, we will work intimately with this powerful region of the body to awaken and open us, as well as close and let go. Finding a more seamless dance between expand and contract, we encourage our brilliance, clarity and focus, healthy and awake boundaries, while letting go of perfectionism and attachment to the critic.

Assignment #1:

- Locate Rahu in your chart. What house is he in, what sign, what other planets are with him if any? Where does he throw his shadows via drishti (aspect/gaze)?
- What nakshatra is Rahu in? What is the deity and ruling planet of this nakshatra?
- What can you identify about your shadow self as a result of this identification process? How does this relate to your personal mythology/woundology?

Repeat these steps for Ketu.

Assignment #2:

- Make a list of all your questions, challenges, confusions, obstacles and issues that you are confronting in your chart and through the Dharma Foundations process.

- Make a list of all your positive, helpful, illuminating resources that you are identifying in your chart and through the Dharma Foundations process.

- What are you moving towards in your life? What are you moving away from in your life as you look at these lists?

- Create a mission statement for your path that feels authentic to your process, your unfolding, and what you are awakening to.

* We will be working with your creative map in the coming modules, so have this available for our final weeks of class.

Module 5: Fifth Chakra

Module 5: Dreaming your dreams. Working intentionally with deep desires.

What are your deepest desires for your life? How do they match your dharmic path and the jyotish indicators of your chart? Using the basic understandings you’ve gained from the previous weeks, we will address how your desires can be supported and nourished based on your jyotish chart indications. Second house matters (nourishment, receiving, throat/voice) and navamsa will be addressed in more detail. We will also address next steps, action steps and how to move forward to activate your dharmic vision for the year to come.

This week is about clearly stating and affirming your path, your dharma and your innate wisdom. Self expression is the most potent and necessary resource for our fulfilling dharmic existence. How do you express yourself and what do you have to say to the world? Working with the fifth chakra, the voice and sounding, we will give value to your voice, your message and your ability to share and shine in this world while speaking your dharmic truth.

Assignment #1

1) Where are the “Big Yes’s” in your life? What is nourishing you and where can you sense and feel the yeses in your life, your current work, relationships etc.? Where do you feel this in your body?

Where are the “Big No’s” in your current life experiences, work etc? Where to you feel this in your body?

2) What are your biggest goals? For your life, path, work, career, relationships? Who do you work with and what do you share? How much money are you making? How many hours a week are you working? Where do you work from and what is your space like? Where do you live?

Notice the emotional response/physical response/the mental messages that come when you make your list. These emotions/feelings and mental images/stories and messages can become part of your tapping scripts and lead you into what blockages need to be more clearly explored and identified.

Assignment #2

1) What message does your Body Part resource have for you?
2) What resources emerged or were discovered from your movement exploration?

Bonus Questions:

What are the main functions of this body part?
What metaphors are connected to this body part- for society, for you?
Where is this body part located in your Jyotish chart? What house and what sign? What other factors are influencing this body part in your chart? Write some notes down about your findings.

Module 6: Sixth Chakra

Module 6: Expanding your vision. Embody your dreams.

In order to manifest, we must allow ourselves to expand what we think is possible for ourselves. We must enlarge our vision and radically accept ourselves, dark and light. Who would you be and what would you be doing if there were no limits in your life? What inspiration do you need moving forward and what changes are you willing to make in order to get there?

In our final week, we affirm and confirm our path. You will set goals, plans of action and learn to align these with your deepest desires. This is a potent week of declaring your needs, desires and intentions. Ritual will play a major role in this process as well as the sixth and seventh chakras. We will work with the head as our primary body part resource.

Goal Setting Questions, Part 1

1) Where are the “Big Yes’s” in your life currently? Identify what is nourishing you and where can you sense and feel the yes's in your life, your current work, relationships etc.? Where do you feel this in your body

2) What would “a dream come true” look like for your business, your dharma, your life path, in the next 6 months?

3) What obstacles, challenges or struggles do you regularly come up against that keep you from taking action on your dharmic path?

4) How much are these challenges costing you in terms of money, opportunities, time, happiness etc. lost?

5) What are your biggest goals? For your life, path, work, career, relationships? Who do you work with and what do you share? How much money are you making? How many hours a week are you working? Where do you work from and what is your space like? Where do you live?

6) Who would you be and what would you be doing if there were no limits in your life? What inspiration do you need moving forward and what changes are you willing to make in order to get to this place of no limitations?

Goal Setting Questions, Part 2

1) What is the problem that I solve for people/animals/Nature/My specific audience or clients? What problem am I truly an expert at?

2) What is your biggest problem in life? Is there cross over here with the problem that you solve for others? (Remember our shadow work. Your biggest problem is actually your biggest gift, offering!)

3) How big is this problem? What group or population is struggling with this?

4) Get clear about your client avatar. Who is this person? What do they need? What do they like/dislike? What are their philosophies about life? Be as clear and targeted about who you are serving as possible.

5) What is this problem costing your client in terms of money, spirit, relationships, time, health, etc? What has my own personal experience been like with this problem?

6) Why do I care about this problem? Why does it matter to me?

7) What strategies would I recommend for solving this problem? List at least three strategies.

*Now re-visit your goals + strategies list and notice if you can make some adjustments to your long term and short term strategies for making money and connecting with your specific population/client etc.

Closing Call

Final Call, 2014

“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. ... No artist is pleased. [There is] no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others”
― Martha Graham

Dharma Foundations Bonus Classes

EFT Tapping Sequence Support + Five Part Process:

1) Do a four level check-in to identify what is coming up for you on the mental, emotional and physical body levels. Notice on a scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least strong, 10 being the most intense) how intense are the feelings coming up?

2) Identify/Confront: Tap on the EFT points as you say aloud what is happening for you on the mental, emotional and physical body levels. Or simply "tap and rant" your intense emotions. Be aware of thoughts and images that arrive as these are messages and clues that can be layered into your tapping process. These are often very potent resources and clues for deeper inquiry. 5 to 10 minutes or as necessary.

"I feel so much confusion right now. I don't know how to move forward. Nothing is working. Life is chaotic. I am so angry right now!"

3) Change: Start to change your wording. Use words that add opening, change, possibility and hope. 5+ minutes.

"Even though I feel really lost right now, I am open to the possibility of answers arriving."
"It may be possible for this to change and I am open to seeing how."
"I have seen support show up in my life before and have had experiences that remind me it's possible. Maybe it is possible again."

As you add the change sequences, pay very close attention to how "true" it feels to you. If there is any doubt or if thoughts arrive which negate these statements, you must go back to the Identify/Confront process.

4) Release/Growth: The final part of the tapping allows the release and growth to occur. You should notice a new ease, acceptance or a sense of opening, hope and possibility. Often a new determination to take some sort of action step arrives. These can be resources for your tapping phrases as well. Don't go into the change/release portion until you have fully worked the previous steps, otherwise it won't feel true on the mental, emotional and physical body levels. Since these are positive phrases, we want to make sure we aren't "cutting and pasting" over our negative experiences but actually honoring both- positive and negative. 5+ minutes.

"I am now ready and open to accepting more support and resources into my life."
"I am open to miracles showing up and being receptive to all the ways the universe provides for me."
"Life is abundant and fulfilling and I am now ready to step into my own abundance and creativity in new ways."

5) Notice now on a scale from 1 to 10 how strong are the feelings now? Notice if your numbers have come down and if there's been a shift. This is an excellent time to do another four level check in and then harvest your experiences with a drawing, some movement and/or some writing. The harvesting process can help to deepen the sense of nourishment and also cultivate a deeper relationship with it.
