Listen to My *free* Class ~ Conversations About Grief
Why Am I Grieving?
|
Avoidance of your grief does not make it go away....
In fact a lot of the grief you are working through in this lifetime is a direct result of your ancestors not digesting and processing their own grief. They handed it down to you- as a gift. Your grief may not feel like a gift, but it does have a purpose. One of your jobs in this life time is to find its purpose and heal the wounding. |
Grief is a normal part of life.
It is a natural emotional response to loss.
Not sure if you have grief?
Here are some natural reasons you may have experienced grief in your life:
- You experienced loss through death- a family member, loved one, friend, animal companion etc.
- You've been through a divorce or a relationship break up.
- You or a loved one is, or has, experienced health challenges, loss of health and vitality.
- You've experienced abuse, trauma or both.
- Your childhood did not feel loving and supportive.
- You've lost a job, a home, etc.
- You've experienced a poignant transition through marriage or becoming a parent. Both translate as a "loss" of self, of being single. This is one of the least recognized forms of grief in our culture. Especially for mothers. Often grief is a big part of the birth process, but gets suppressed or avoided because birth is "supposed to be a joyful" process!
Any life transition is a door closing and a new door opening. Attending to transitions and rites of passage in our culture is rare. There's a space for holding joy, excitement, happiness and celebration, but often there is not a space to hold the heavy, challenging or painful emotions that arrive through change and letting go.
The short answer is, if you are alive in a human body, you've experienced grief!
Your emotions are the barometer of your needs and how to get your needs met.
Grief is a powerful emotional body journey that can awaken you in ways that would be otherwise impossible.
The nature of grief is a process of release, letting go, endings. Holes arrive- in all layers of your life. Deep, painful wounds begin to surface, showing themselves in ways that have long gone unnoticed. Grief brings your pain, darkness and shadow to the light, to the surface.
If you are alive, you have grief. Suppressing and avoiding your grief does NOT mean you don't have any.
Most people avoid their grief with emotional numbing.
The most common avoidance tactics are:
too much alcohol, drugs, food, sex, screen time or overworking.
So few people understand the gifts of the emotional body and the dire consequences of numbing its important messages.
In my lifelong journey with grief, loss and pain, I've encountered countless teachers, healers and therapists who aren't walking their talk. They aren't doing their vital emotional work.
The majority of my clients are navigating deep loss, grief, and the lasting impact of unprocessed emotions.
Undigested emotion will create issues on all four levels of your being- physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
The resistance to feeling your pain has dire consequences. Avoidance of your grief and sadness hinders your ability to feel joy.
Your willingness to move closer to your sadness, loss, pain and fear will result in an expanded ability to experience the power of happiness and fulfillment.
Simply put, the capacity in which you are showing up for your grief, is the capacity in which you'll be able to hold your joy.
Often we need support with this process of leaning into our pain.
This healing support may need to be personal or communal. But without consistent, safe, non-judgemental holding that can mirror you, reshaping and recreating new possibility for yourself will be near to impossible.
This is the disappointment I have felt with countless therapists, healers and teachers.
Those who I thought would understand my pain and bottomless sorrow, the heavy weight of my lifelong grief, instead have mirrored to me their own discomfort and disapproval- their own unprocessed emotion!
This is why it is vital that you do your emotional body work diligently.
Grief that is not healed and released, recognized as a resource for your own awakening, will be passed on to others in very unconscious ways. In fact, this is how you received a lot of your grief! Your ancestors and family members did not heal their own grief, and it got handed down to the next generation.
From a Vedic Astrology perspective, grief is seen through the planet Saturn.
Everyone has the influence of Saturn in their chart, everyone experiences the pain and suffering he brings to life- through loss, hard work, pressure and grief.
Loss is a part of life and living, but there's little to no space in our society for honoring the release process and the heavy emotions that often comes with it.
Grief impacts your entire being- physical body, mental body, emotional body and spiritual body. The entire body changes and transforms as a result of your loss. Something new is being created. But what?
Working with the space that has been created within you as a result of your loss is a powerful resource. It can support your creative process in amazing ways- if you work with it intentionally.
I want to make sure you don't walk through the territory of grief alone. That you have the holding and support that I did not receive. That you get the nourishment of being honored in your grief journey and for your grief journey- in ways that truly help you awaken to its gifts. I'm committed to sharing my resources with you.
I'll be sharing more resources in the coming days for those of you, like me, who are navigating the grief process- a lifelong journey of deepening your emotional body wisdom.
I'll also be sharing a special offering for those of you dedicated to your spiritual awakening through grief.
