Identifying Your Hidden Grief
|
Your grief has an intelligence of its own.
It is through your pain that you are able to awaken, to wake up from your deepest slumber. Grief is not joyful or happy- so most people resist it and avoid it all costs. When we avoid our pain and suffering, it doesn't go away. When you avoid your shadow, it only intensifies. |
Avoiding and resisting your grief does not mean you do not have grief. It does not mean your losses have been honored, healed and released.
In fact, grief is an ongoing process of releasing stagnant emotions stuck in the body. A process you must attend to daily, weekly, monthly, seasonally and yearly. When you allow your emotions to flow freely, then you can soften, open, awaken- from the toxic layers you've been holding onto. The toxic emotional layers that keep you from what you truly yearn for- more nourishment, more love, more joy.
When your body is clogged with pain, grief and undigested emotions, there's little room for anything else.
Your grief process is vital for releasing and removing the emotional blockages within you.
Severely repressed grief is what I refer to as Hidden Grief. This type of grief can go undetected for years, even life times. It is the reason why grief gets handed down from generation to generation.
Hidden grief gets pushed deep within the bodies- physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually. It becomes rigid and resistant to change. It can even create its own identity, its own ego. There's a sense of refusal and avoidance of life, causing complications with desire, passion and purpose.
Signs of Hidden Grief:
- Apathy about life, resistance to living.
- Cycles of overwhelm, confusion and excess fatigue.
- Disconnection and dissociation from the physical body.
- Unable to access a connection with Spirit.
- Little to no spiritual connection to your loved one who has passed.
- Stuck in the death realms (heavy, dark emotions that do not cease).
- Financial debt.
- Family history of losses that have not been honored or healed fully.
- Loss of enthusiasm for life and purpose.
- Anger or rage that seems to have no clear origin.
- Emotional body numbness or frozen emotions.
- Physical signs of grief without emotional experiences (ex: chest pains without the experience of sadness).
- Heart, lung, chest and breast related health conditions.
From a jyotish astrology perspective it's important to note that when Saturn (the planet of grief) interacts with Scorpio or the 8th house in any capacity, hidden grief will be much more problematic. Hidden Grief is especially important right now for everyone, as Saturn makes his 2.5 year transit through Scorpio. Pay particular attention to Saturn's impact on the Moon and Venus especially, as these are the planets most connected to the emotional body. The 8th house, and Scorpio by default, correlate to hidden and unconscious parts of yourself. Your Saturn, Moon and Venus will deeply impact Hidden Grief.
The intelligence of your grief is unique to your path. It can open you up to more of what you need and help you receive the nourishment you so desperately want.
When you experience a painful loss, it's hard to see how the excruciating pain of your grief can be a resource. It's impossible to see how the crashing waves can be anything but overwhelming. There seems to be no way out, no way through. It feels like you won't ever move beyond this hell realm.
Navigating the darkest realms of your being should not be done alone. Traveling alone through this inner darkness is not advised. It's easy to get stuck here, even lost.
Many people do get stuck and refuse to return from the darkness. Grief can take on a life of its own, one that sucks you in and refuses to let you go.
In fact, this has been a big part of my own journey. The resistance to moving my grief. Not letting my grief move or move through me. Not clearly identifying the hidden grief and its impact on me.
For most of my life I've been stuck in grief, stuck in the hell realms. Feeling as though life had no meaning and there was no point in continuing this journey.
This changed when I found two important life changing resources- private sessions with my embodiment therapist and a designated grief community. These two resources have helped me deepen my relationship with my grief journey, in a way that would never have been possible had I resisted or pushed away the support. I started to directly name my grief and work with it in conscious, very specific ways. I started to build a relationship with my ancestors, as well as my father and mother, who are both in the Spirit realms now.
As my hidden grief began to soften, move, and awaken, so did I. With time and practice, my grief has become a powerful ally of awareness. I can work with it now, not against it. In fact, my cycles of grief have become the most powerful resources of healing and awakening now.
Solutions for Hidden Grief:
- Slowly releasing layers of emotion through embodied titration methods.
- Naming and honoring losses directly
- Using specific grief rituals to support digestion and release.
- Tracking origin and impact of ancestral grief.
- Using jyotish as tool for identifying how grief is effecting you- physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
- Deepening your relationship with ancestral support.
- Re-establishing relationships with the Spirit realms.
- Working directly with physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.
- One on one witnessing and holding.
- Community witnessing and holding.
- Establishing a more embodied connection to your emotions.
- Honoring emotional body cycles, rhythms and messages.
- Creating a foundational relationship with Nature and the wisdom of the Moon.
- Devotion and connection to the Divine Mothers, the Divine Feminine.
Grief work should not be done alone.
It is in fact a process that needs ongoing, consistent holding, support, containment. Grief work is ancient and has historically been done in community, through ritual. Your grief is begging you for resources and support so that you can use it as a tool for awakening. Grief is meant to be done in community- with others who can hold you, honor you and help you get your needs met. Grief should not be done in isolation.
When you self isolate, you miss a powerful opportunity for awakening through your grief.
Remember that the bigger the loss you experience, the bigger the re-birth as well.
Grief is a process of awakening to something bigger than you were before. But it requires gentle holding, support and resources in order for you to find its purpose in your life.
