In this waxing Moon cycle, Sun leaves its sign of debilitation where a certain slow, inward climb has been present. The tight conjunction of Sun and Mercury continues as Sun and Mercury leap almost simultaneously into Scorpio on November 16th. Scorpio is known for its depth, deep inner power and passions. The inward focus of the past cycle deepens, clarifies, and transforms in the cycle ahead. The combustion of Sun and Mercury continues through December 6th- when Mercury moves to Sagittarius. With Sun and Mercury continuing to travel in close proximity, the mental body stays hot, focused, critical and oriented towards order and organization. Use this time to gain clarity and attend to finances, old karmas, shadow work and stories from the past. Mental and imaginal realms will be illuminated. What is coming to the light? Though Sun and Mercury will no longer be hemmed in by malefics, however they will conjunct Saturn in Scorpio and receive drishti from Ketu. Sensitivity is high in the coming cycle and we will all benefit from extra rest, self care and attention to the four bodies. Go slow and don't force. This is also a prime opportunity to attend to physical and mental bodies and deepen the mind/body connection. With mental body rigidity and resistance present, use the physical body as a resource for staying in the present, rather than traversing the past. All four bodies- spiritual, mental, emotional and physical- will be extra sensitive in this cycle. Pushing, forcing or fighting this will lead to unnecessary struggles and obstacles. Health issues are a reminder to slow down and listen more deeply. Mental and emotional body struggles are a request to look at parts of yourself that need your attention. Spiritual concerns request deeper surrender and trust. Gather resources and extra support for this cycle and notice where you are resisting or refusing the nourishment you need for safety and support. Relationships continue to prove insightful and a potent mirror for inner growth and healing. In this cycle it's vital that illusions are clarified, brought to the surface and transformed. Notice where you are staying out of integrity and giving your power away. Focus on inner support and stability rather than mindlessly pleasing, dis-empowering yourself, and deflecting the nourishment you need. As debilitated Venus continues through Virgo, conjunct Mars and Rahu, shadow work intensifies. This is a time to be diligent with relationships, feelings, creativity and finances. Both Sun and Virgo are debilitated until the 16th of November. Our light source, Sun, and the life force energy within, Venus, are vulnerable. This is not a time to push the physical body. Take care of your health diligently. This Venus cycle will proved challenging to all things Venus, in that you may miss or neglect resources for support due to Rahu's clouded vision. Simultaneously there will be opportunities to strip away the veils of illusion that are holding you back from fully being nourished by our connections, creative powers, finances, relationships and commodities. Challenge is always an opportunity for deepening change and transformation- so if you notice issues and obstacles, look beneath the surface. Look beneath your mundane existence and take note of the old stories and paradigms running you on auto pilot. How are these stories influencing how you connect as well as who and what you connect to? The lack of clarity and certainty in this Venus cycle is prevalent, yet we can choose how to respond to the calamities, discord and discomfort. Do you further separate and disconnect yourself, or do you lean in, find ways to deepen connection and get your deeper needs met? It will be necessary to strive for balance- inner and outer. One of the ways this can be supported is through stringent self care and taking care of your needs on the four levels of your being- mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. The conjunction of debilitated Venus and shadow node Rahu can increase the use of intoxicants and "feel good" remedies that mask your ability to deeply feel. Old patterns with drugs, alcohol, sugar, food etc. can be activated at this time so be mindful of what the underlying needs are. These addictive patterns are a cry for deeper nourishment on some level of your being. How can you get your needs met in healthy, balanced and nourishing ways? What support do you need for your process? Ask for guidance, support and assistance. Deepen your relationship with self and others. There is an opportunity for deep healing in this cycle if we choose to step towards this as Virgo correlates to the sixth house of healing and healer. The continued conjunction of debilitated Venus, Mars and Rahu, provide a heated and potentially challenging combination. Conflicts and fiery emotions may be felt. What is the root of the anger? What is the underlying need? What passions are stirring that need your attention and focus? There is a powerful opportunity in this cycle to address anger, rage and the often toxic cycle of this emotion. If the underlying root cause, or need, can be found and honored, an unraveling can take place. In the unraveling, there is opportunity for healing and transformation to arrive. Relationships are vulnerable and fragile in this cycle. Think before speaking, more importantly pause, wait, and take time for reflection before responding. It will be too easy to speak words that you may later regret. If you are feeling strong emotions, pause for 24 hours at least before responding. Give yourself time to meditate, contemplate and release the emotions before sharing your thoughts, needs or motives. At the same time, this can be a powerful cycle of healing for those inclined to do the inner work this time period will provoke. Healing with anger, relationships, power and authority figures are possible. Let your stomach guide you and invite in opportunities for healing your relationships with inner power and emotions, while helping you integrate and digest the messages arriving. Relationship challenges are opportunities for mirroring what we need and also reminding you what needs to shift within you. As Eckhart Tolle says, "Relationships do not cause pain & unhappiness. They bring out the pain & unhappiness that is already in you." As challenges arrive, identify parts of yourself that need to grieve and release. Past hurts, pains, disappointments, sorrows and heavy emotions are all places within you that didn't get the necessary love that was needed. By attending to these parts of your being now, you can help to move, shift, heal and transform the old pain, bring it to the light and allow this part of yourself to be well fed now. Let yourself grieve and peel back the layers of pain that are asking for your attention. Your are being offered powerful opportunities for releasing the sadness and losses that are masked by anger, rage, and frustration. Lean in and tend to these parts of yourself with compassion, rather than resistance and avoidance. *Horoscopes are based on your Vedic (sidereal) rising sign. You can also check your Moon and Sun signs for further insight. Do the same with your Navamsa signs for further clarity. Do not use these horoscopes with your Western sign (Tropical) as there is likely no correlation. These horoscopes are meant to be used as a broad overview of the current transits and obviously do not address the specifics of an individual’s unique chart Aries: Continue to rest and rejuvenate, attending to the relationship with self and others. The vulnerability and challenges are an invitation to dive deeper within. As Sun and Mercury move into your 8th house on the 16th, the necessity for rest turns to a deeper need for meditation and transformation. This is coming cycle is considered a low energy, inward point for you and must be honored as such. Use this for making necessary shifts with mind, emotions, body and soul. Ask for extra support and guidance. Take intentional care of children and partners while you attend to and clean up old karmas. Taurus: Take the inner healing that you’ve gained and transfer this knowing into the mirror your relationships give you. Let relationships become your new channel for growth and wisdom. What challenges are you facing? What resistance? What parts of your self are refusing to receive nourishment and support? Let passion, creativity, power and purpose feed you. Trust your steps and what you are attracting into your life. Notice where the fear gets in the way of your trust. Ask for guidance and support when you feel stuck. Gemini: So much passion and conviction within your heart right now! There is focus, clarity and deep desire being activated. There is also an intense critic and shadow work to uncover and awaken. Where are you keeping yourself stuck and hidden in the illusions of your being? Where are you refusing to feel and deepen your emotional body wisdom? In order to deepen your container of receiving, you must open and purge the channels of pain, obstacles and challenges. How is your critic keeping you from the nourishment you crave? How does this serve you? Use this cycle for deeper healing and transformation. Get support for your process. Cancer: The softness and vulnerability within the heart, moves into passion and power after the 16th. Ground this new awareness and emotional body wisdom within the body and let it guide you to connect with deeper parts of your being. Use embodiment resources to land in the physical body, while gaining a more intimate spiritual connection simultaneously. Use this as a resource form increasing creativity, courage and inner healing. Keep moving towards more embodied forms of nourishment. What are you learning about your needs versus your wants? They are different and require different attention. Leo: Nourishment, support and guidance are a forceful and potent part of your path right now. Share your discoveries and learnings with others and offer your resources. Keep aligning with your inner guru and step more forcefully into support and guidance roles. Speak and share your wisdom with purpose and conviction. When doubts and confusion emerge, challenges or obstacles, land in your heart center, your inner knowing. Let your emotional body wisdom be your tuning fork. Are you aligned with your truth? Can you keep landing back in your heart even when the mind pulls you out with its distractions? Notice where this feeling of truth arrives in your body. Keep coming back. Virgo: There is excitement and worldly gains as well as confusion, uncertainty and fear. Who wins you over? Where are you resisting and refusing nourishment and support? It’s time to step more courageously into action and use your creative gifts for increasing deeper trust and resiliency. You are learning a lot about yourself from travel, silence, alone time and retreats. Harvest and attend to your passion and start sharing your heart wisdom in more authentic ways. Write, paint, dance, create! There is healing to be had! Libra: Let the softening that you’ve been uncovering allow you to land in deeper nourishment. How are you gathering and allowing more support from others and from spirit? Let you physical body wisdom be a primary resource for harvesting deeper wisdom and guidance. Get clear about your needs and focus on the essentials. What are you ingesting and allowing into your life? Purify and clean up what enters your temple. Get passionate and attentive to your healing practices. Allow plenty of time for rest, meditation, retreats and silence. Let ideas, imagination and creativity flow! Scorpio: Take the nourishment you’ve received from your travels, alone time and silence, into your life offerings. Share and connect, create and serve. Offer your wisdom and guidance in more concrete, tangible ways. Be seen, get noticed and share your work with the world. Be a bright light. Stay focused on gains and receiving, while noticing how challenges can be a resource for healing and transformation. Gain through relationships, friendships and clients. Ask for what you truly want and take action steps to make it happen. Start getting the support you really need. Sagittarius: Take time for extra rest, meditation, silence and retreats. As Sun and Mercury dip into your 12th house on the 16th, it's time to lay low and turn inward. Gather spiritual resources to support your inner work and seek balance between inner and outer realms. Work continues to feel challenging. Lean in to your passion. What messages does it share about your needs? You are still cleaning up your heart and emotional body, let the release flow and move. Let the physical body be a spiritual channel for you. Deepen your connection with spirit though landing and grounding in your physical body. Capricorn: The efforts and challenges of the past month begin to harvest richer rewards now. You’re learning how vital it is to slow down, stop, pause, land and ground. Much of this has been out of force, in order to help you re-balance, re-calibrate a healthier set point for yourself. Let this slower, more inward focus be your new default mode. What does it feel like in your physical body? What sensations tell you when you have arrived within? Let these messages continue to guide you home. Continue your dharmic focus and activate it through passion, clarity and focus. Gains are arriving. Are you able to harvest and receive these gifts? Aquarius: Keep cutting out the unnecessary and unwanted. Only invite in the nourishment, support and guidance that truly empowers you. Take your inner wisdom and turn it outward. Offer your teachings and support to others. Use the physical and spiritual bodies to deepen your offerings. Bravely go into your own darkness, karmas and obstacles, in order to transform from the inside out. Use fear, anger and desire as resources for change, healing and self development. How can you deepen your self compassion? Surrender, loosen the grips of your shadow with conscious attention and transformational tools. Pisces: Relationships continue to prove challenging, yet insightful. The learning curves are strong right now. What are you harvesting from these obstacles? What resources are you gathering to support your inner development? Notice how your inner strength is deepening and healing is taking place within. Use your inner power as a resource and lean into your gut wisdom. Awaken your dharmic focus in the coming Sun cycle. Take your inner wisdom into teaching, sharing, guiding and supporting others. Even though Jyotish astrology is considered to be soli-lunar, in many regards the Moon is considered the most vital piece of the karmic life map. The Moon shares crucial insights about our inner landscape, our internal realms. Here we navigate our feeling and emotional body experience- a very unique attribute of being a human.
The Moon (Chandra in Sanskrit) is the intelligence and intuition of each being. It is the nourisher of life, who offers us soma, divine nectar. The Moon represents the universal Ma and the Mother within, as well as our inner intelligence. The Sun is connected to our soul and the sheath that houses the soul, whereas the Moon is connected to the wisdom and intelligence within the soul. In the Jyotish chart, the placement of the Moon will show how aligned the being is with sacred intuition. The Moon will share what nourishment is available to the being as well as how it will utilize its inner intelligence. In Vedic astrology, the Moon is given great importance and is of equal, if not more, importance than the Sun in many regards. For if the Sun is strong, but the Moon is weak, how will the soul be nurtured and supported? Moon is intimately connected to the Mother, the nurturing quality of life. It shares the essential intelligence of life that gives us comfort, nourishment, emotional support, as well as our requirements for love and affection. The connection of Moon to our emotions and our psychological state is not by accident. After all our emotional body and its harmony is intimately connected to our relationship with prana, the life force. Feelings make for a joyful life or a challenging life and they move quickly- just like the Moon! Our father plays a major role in our creation. In the Vedic understanding, he is the seed that sparks our life. However, it is the Moon’s qualities that are like the soil. Mother offers the womb, the nurturing and the container for the seed to grow. The Mother gives the vital ingredients for sustaining life it self. Without her, we will be lost, misguided and lack the ability to live life fully nourished. Our connection to Moon, to Ma, to mother, directly impacts our ability to live in harmony with life and feel the support and nurturing life has to offer. How well are you able to be nourished? The Moon sign is the determining factor of our nourishment and wisdom. Assessing the Moon in your jyotish chart will share many important details about your inner wisdom, emotional body, the connection you have with your Mother and if you are able to receive the sacred wisdom of life. Have you been following along with my previous Jyotish Basics articles? Get your first lesson is here. Step #1: Identify Your Moon. First, notice where the Moon is located in your chart. The abbreviation is likely MO. What sign is it in? The Sign will share a lot about your Moon's disposition, but there are a few other factors to consider. What is the symbol of your Moon sign and the element that rules over it? What can you assess about your Moon with these details? Follow these guidelines for extra support. Step #2: Who Rules Over Your Moon? The planetary influence upon your Moon sign is another vital piece of information. What is the planetary ruler of your Moon sign? No two planets express themselves the same way. A Mars ruled sign acts very differently than a Saturn ruled sign. What can you determine about your Moon sign based on its planetary ruler? Step #3 Where Does Your Wisdom and Nourishment Come From? The house (or bhava in Sanskrit) that your Moon sits in shares vital information about what you need for nourishment and inner support. Is your Moon comfortable in its home? Does it feel safe? What type of support does the house give you? The support will be on an emotional body level, which is a vital part of your receptivity, the ability to feel the nourishment of life. 1st House: Sense of self, worldly house, being seen, ego, appearance, intelligence. 2nd House: Nourishment, wealth, support, gems, speaking, voice. 3rd House: Communication, writing, courage, the arts, creativity, self expression, using the hands. 4th House: Home, land, mother, emotions, spirituality and moksha. 5th House: Children, creativity, romance, intuition, knowledge. 6th House: Enemies, bad habits, healing, disease, legal issues, competition, debt. 7th House: Relationships, others, partner, sexuality, desire, travel, trade. 8th House: Death, disease, transformation, transcendence, vulnerability, mysticism. 9th House: Dharma, guru, wisdom, education, foreign travels, fortune, religion. 10th House: Career, achievement, success, father, action, fame, social status. 11th House: Gains, wealth, income, friends, desires, fulfillment of desire. 12th House: Endings, loss, liberation, marriage, retreat, foreign lands, alone time. Step #4 Putting it all together. It's time to combine all the layers now and derive some meaning from it all. What can you determine about your Moon sign based on all the previous steps? What type of emotional body wisdom are you aligned with and how do you seek your nourishment in life? Remember the Moon will support how you feel nourishment in your life. Saturn gives his drishti (gaze) to both planets, as does Rahu. This cycle of Mars demands that we pay attention to our words and actions. Intention is everything, while action gets the job done. Avoid the tussle between thinking and doing, as well as the paralyzing details that can keep us from being bold in our doing. Where are you spinning your wheels and not moving? Where do you need greater support and stability? What are you not saying that needs to be said? Work on getting your needs met by being clear- first with yourself, then with others. Say what you mean and mean what you say.
Monday continues with a waning Moon transiting Vishaka nakshatra and moving into its debilitation sign, Scorpio, early evening. As Moon joins Saturn here, a certain depression or sadness may emerge. The gaze of Mars, Mercury, Jupiter and Ketu upon Saturn and the Moon over the next two days may increase worries, doubts, fears and anxieties. Your emotional body will be dishing it out. What is the need underneath the emotion? What are your emotions telling you about your vulnerability? Seek support. Where does it come from? Just as Tuesday begins, Moon shifts into Anuradha nakshatra. Ruling deity, Mitra, offers connection and support through friendship and alliances. Let help arrive to give you what you need- whether it is through a listening ear or co-creation. Ruling planet of Scorpio, Mars, gains strength today, while Moon conjuncts Saturn exactly. Ask for what you really want and don't take no for an answer. Not sure what you really want? Ask your emotional body for clues. Underneath the feelings, lie the answers. The fog begins to lift late in the evening. Wednesday begins with Moon in Jyeshta nakshatra, Indra's domain. Strength and sensitivity come together, influenced by our senses. Tame the mind, the mental body and don't let its stories run away with you today- unless you need a good adventure! Stay true to your course, your dharma, and mind your truths. The Moon slips into Sagittarius and Mula nakshatra first thing Thursday morning, moving away from the intense influence of five planets. Venus, however, gives his gaze from seven houses away, increasing feelings and creativity, as well as relationship themes. Mars offer his gaze from eight houses away now and keeps frustrations, agitations and passions well stoked. Ruling deity of Mula is the goddess of adharma, Nirriti, who insures some surprises. She brings calamity and misfortune, yet often great healing can take place through her darkness. What can the chaos teach you? How is it being self perpetuated? As Friday begins, Moon moves to the domain of the water goddess, Apas, once it enters the lunar constellation, PurvaAshada. Her healing waters bring rejuvenation, clarity and refreshment as well as sensitivity and intense feelings. Surf your inner tides today consciously- the big waves and the small ones. Honor these waves, while standing firmly rooted on the shore. The latter half of the Ashada constellation, UttarAshada, arrives first thing Saturday morning and the Vishva Devas offer their support and opportunities. The all-gods, or Laws of Nature, remind us to be true to ourselves and to stand in our truth. As Moon shifts into Capricorn early morning, Saturn offers his drishti once again, as do Rahu and Jupiter. Seek balance, find support and establish your own middle ground. Let your legs and feet ground you when the fog comes rolling in. The expansive powers of Vishnu and his nakshatra, Sravana, arrive just as Sunday begins. Vishnu is connected to akasha, space, and allows us to hear and experience sattva, truth. This ability to align with pure truth helps support dharma and inner strength. Take time to pause and deeply listen to your inner guidance systems. Let the physical body share its somatic insights and allow the spiritual body to offer its wisdom. Awaken and expand, while taking clear action steps. Align with the purity of your truth. *Time zone used for calculations is in Pacific Daylight Time. New Moon Tuesday, January 20th at 07:14 am CST Moon in Capricorn and UttaraAshada Nakshatra New Moon Intention: We are each creators, born to create. Trust your creative energy, channel it and let it flow! UttaraAshada nakshatra is ruled by the Vishva Devas and also the Sun. Nobility, integrity and good deeds are exemplified by the Vishva Devas. They have high morals, high standards and request that we do the same. Dharma and dharmic integrity are priorities for them. They wish to help us rise in life, to succeed, but only by following the Laws of Nature. Capricorn gets our full attention for this new Moon with Moon, Sun, Venus and Mercury in this sign simultaneously. Rahu, Jupiter and Saturn give their drishti, which enhances the high energy of this empty Moon. Capricorn is a hard working planet that does well with Saturn’s consistent and structured efforts. This new Moon requests just that, however, we will likely be feeling pulled in too many directions. Grounding and stabilizing are essential right now. Working directly with structure and support systems will be beneficial for directing the enhanced creative energy of this time. This includes working directly with the physical body wisdom to help us contain and hold our big mental body and emotional body energy. Use the coming weeks to focus your efforts on channeling your potent creative energy more effectively. By creating strong channels, the creative flow can be enhanced, directed, and increased, in a more balanced and sustainable way. It is essential to release and let go of what does not serve or maximize your creative flow. Creative Ritual Three Level Mandala Ritual 1) Do a three level check in with the mental body, emotional body, physical body. Write down your experiences for each level of awareness. 2) Draw three circles on a piece of paper and label each one as mental, emotional and physical. Then create a mini mandala for each of these three bodies. What is the "felt sense" that arrives for each of these levels of awareness? Capture each level of awareness and express it within your mandalas. Don't over think this, just create. Remember, it's process, not product right now. 3) Give a name or title to each mandala. Capture the essence in words. 4) Answer these baseline statements once you've completed your mini mandala process. January Full Moon Sunday, January 4th at 22:52 CST Moon in Gemini and Punarvasu Nakshatra Full Moon Intention: That is full: this is full. From fullness, fullness comes out. Taking fullness from fullness, what remains is fullness. - Isha Upanishad Full Moon in Punarvasu nakshatra invites in blessings from Aditi, the “Mother of all goodness”. She brings us awareness, blessings of unity consciousness, growth and expansion through wisdom. Aditi cares for and nourishes us like a mother cares for her children. She brings us peaceful and non dualistic experiences. Punarvasu Nakshatra is ruled by the planet Jupiter which is retrograde in Cancer currently. Jupiter continues to invite us to revisit our emotional body wisdom, our heart centered awareness, and the needs we have for comfort and nourishment emotionally. This may include a re-visiting of themes, stories and experiences from our past as well as parts of our emotional body wisdom that need to be re-examined and reassessed. Use this Full Moon to create and clearly identify what your deepest needs are. What nourishment are you lacking in your life? This is the container that needs the majority of your attention right now. Seek to create a container that can hold exactly what you need for deeper nourishment in your life. We can really only get our needs met when we can clearly identify and express them. This Full Moon is a time of creating new kinds of structures for your life so your container can be filled with exactly what you so greatly desire. This will require some depth and intimacy with what is not working in your life (your shadows), in order for you to start identifying where your greatest needs and deficits are. Your ability and willingness to dive into the emotional body pain and wounds of your life will determine how able you are to create the true nourishment you need on a deeper level. What is it that you truly wish to fill your container with? What is the nourishment you need for fullness? Let your light and dark pieces dance together, so that you can expand your capacity to hold the nourishment you need. Expand your nourishment container by integrating the shadow and light. Creative Ritual Identifying Your Inner Landscape I consider the three level check in to be the most basic self care resource. It is an identification process, a tool that can help us honor what is happening in the now. We can then create the nourishment we need through proper resources. The three levels of awareness are: the mental body, emotional body and physical body. I encourage you to self track daily, hourly, or even moment to moment. Your identification process can then be taken into drawing, movement explorations, journaling or music, in order for you to deepen, directly work with, and transform what is arriving in your inner landscape. The three level check in is a simple, yet vital resource for self tracking. Document your three level check-ins. Use a Self Care Journal as a way to track your ongoing, ever changing inner landscape. This journal can be a helpful resource for identifying emergent themes in your healing and transforming process. Steps for A Three Level Check In 1) Whatever you are doing right now, hit the pause button and bring your attention inward. It may help to close your eyes, but this isn't necessary. You may be sitting, standing or walking, but bring your attention to the now regardless of what is happening around you. 2) Notice the mental body. What is coming to you? What is the mental body sharing with you? Be present to images, colors, words, expressions and shapes that arise. 3) Notice the emotional body. What is coming to you? What is the mental body sharing with you? Be present to images, colors, words, expressions and shapes that arise. 4) Notice the physical body. What is coming to you? What is the mental body sharing with you? Be present to images, colors, words, expressions and shapes that arise. My 2015 Moon Wisdom Calendar is coming soon!
