I'm in the midst of my 14 Day Emotional Body Challenge. I've been sharing resources and guidance to support your emotional body literacy this past week. It's a very important conversation to have. And one that very few people are willing to talk about, let alone do the actual work it requires. Your willingness to show up for your self, for your emotional body, is courageous. It is the path of the warrior. So few people understand the gifts of the emotional body. In my lifelong journey with grief, loss and pain, I've encountered countless teachers, healers and therapists who aren't walking their talk. The majority of clients I work with are navigating deep loss, grief, and the lasting impact of unprocessed emotions. Undigested emotion will create issues on all four levels of your being- physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. The resistance to feeling your pain has dire consequences. Avoidance of your grief and sadness hinders your ability to feel joy. Your willingness to move closer to your sadness, loss, pain and fear will result in an expanded ability to experience the power of happiness and fulfillment. Simply put, the capacity in which you are showing up for your grief, is the capacity in which you'll be able to hold your joy. Often we need support with this process of leaning into our pain. This healing support may need to be personal or communal. But without consistent, safe, non-judgemental holding mirrored to you, reshaping and recreating new possibility for yourself will be near to impossible. This is the disappointment I have felt with countless therapists, healers and teachers. Those who I thought would understand my pain and bottomless sorrow, the heavy weight of my lifelong grief. I thought they would get it. But instead I have often been mirrored discomfort and disapproval, their own unprocessed emotion! This is why it is vital that you do your emotional body work diligently. You will pass on, mirror and express your emotional body literacy (or illiteracy) to others- consciously or unconsciously. The only way to heal the pain, is to walk through it- to move with it. To use it. To create with it. But most importantly to bring your presence to it. Presence is a powerful healing resource. This is the presence you have longed for, that you have always desired- from your parents, friends, family, teachers, healers and therapists. We all long for presence. You can start healing- simply by giving yourself the gift of presence. Often, presence is the simple part. Maybe you can get there, but then what? Once you arrive in presence, what is the next step? How do you know if you are actually hearing your emotional body? How do you extract the wisdom in all the pain and darkness? Building a relationship (like any relationship) takes time. It's your slow, consistent steps that let your emotional body know you are truly committed to the relationship. Big, powerful emotions are messengers from your emotional body that you need to pay attention. You need to lean in closer. You need something. But what? The wisdom of the emotional body is that it will share your needs with you. Your emotional body lets you know when a need is being met, and when a need is not being met. As a highly sensitive person, you have an extra special emotional body. You have more internal receptors to communicate what you are feeling. This can be helpful for getting your needs met. But if you aren't paying attention often enough, you will also experience bigger emotional waves as well. Daily maintenance is crucial- especially for highly sensitive people like you and me. Make sure you're doing a daily four level check-in. Here are some other ways to know if you are honoring your emotional body, or if you're frozen, stuck, avoiding or resisting its messages: -Do you pause to listen to your emotions, to check in with what arrives and then use this to inform your actions and choices? -Can you be present (very present) to others' emotions and navigate which are "theirs" and which are "yours"? - Do you dump your emotions on others as a way to cope with your own overwhelm? -Do you hate tears? Anger? Do you wish it could be happy and "smooth" all the time for your Self and your relationships? -Do you push past your own emotions, trying to skip to the "good stuff"? -Do you cut and paste over your feelings- especially around others- in order to keep things "tidy" and not rock the boat? -Do you allow time and space for discomfort and emotions like sadness, anger, depression, grief and loneliness? -Do you use drugs or alcohol, food and other "feel good" methods to enhance your life? Remember that your courage to show up- no matter what is arriving within- is the most courageous thing you can do for yourself. Your presence is the first step to awakening. This Week's Intention: Stay close to your heart and emotional body wisdom this week. Honor your steps, but go slow and be steady. What is your intention for action and movement? Monday, August 29th Moon in 13th tithi Trayodasi Monday begins with Moon moving into Pushya nakshatra and its own sign Cancer. Pushya, the nourishing star, is Brihaspati's domain. Monday, June 6th Moon in 2nd tithi Dvitiya The week begins with the intense energy of Ardra just as Moon begins its waxing cycle. The emotional body is still fragile, inward and sensitive. Moon moves through Gemini, while its ruling planet Mercury moves to the edge of Aries. The mind and emotions are delicate today and Ardra's ferocity may provoke unpredictable emotional outbursts from you and from others. Passions are high, confusion is strong, overwhelm is present. The week ahead brings a full Moon in Virgo with a penumbral lunar eclipse. The Vernal equinox has opened the door to spring in the northern hemisphere and the Holi celebrations spark the creative life force energy- inner and outer. Mercury is now debilitated in Pisces and Saturn will go retrograde this week as well. Be gentle with your emotions, mind and body. Monday, March 21st Moon in 14th tithi Just as Monday begins, Moon shifts to Purvaphalguni nakshatra, increasing creativity and life force energy. As the Moon moves through Leo, it is conjunct retrograde Jupiter and Rahu. All three planets receive drishti (gaze) from Venus, Ketu and Saturn. The emotional body is being asked to respond to complex energies. Find ways to ground into the body and spirit in order to awaken from repressed or contracted emotions. Emotional body tides are high now as Moon enters the 14th tithi (phase), nearing complete fullness. Allow your feelings to move through you and attend to your emotional body wisdom with care. Tuesday, March 22nd Moon in 15th tithi As Tuesday begins, the Moon moves to the final phase of the waxing cycle, Purnima- the 15th tithi. Just as the emotional body moves into fullness, it changes into the latter half of the Phalguni constellation, Uttaraphalguni. Aryaman rules this domain and provides creativity, fertility and sustainability for connection, creation and relationship. He's especially associated with the ancestors and sustaining one's lineage through marriage, children and dharma. The Phalguni stars are particularly potent and creative. It is said that even the gods get married during the time of Phalguni- which honor spring, awakening and fertility and celebrations like marriage. Wednesday, March 23rd Moon in 15th and 1st tithi The full Moon is March 23rd at 05:00 PDT while Moon is in Virgo and Uttaraphalguni. This full Moon coincides with a penumbral lunar eclipse, closing the two week eclipse portal that has been invoking challenging shadow work for many. The eclipse begins at 02:39 PDT, with the maximum eclipse being at 04:47 PDT, and ending at 06:54 PDT. This full Moon marks the closing of the eclipse portal (the two week period between solar and lunar eclipses). Thursday, March 24th Moon in 2nd tithi The Moon continues through Hasta until late morning. Let Savitr support your awakening and increased light as you begin your day. Recite the Gayatri Mantra for gaining his guidance. As Moon shifts into Chitra, Vishvakarma arrives with an action-oriented agenda. His creativity and the action he puts behind it, can support great strides. He is considered "the divine architect" who created the zodiac. Friday, March 25th Moon in 3rd tithi Saturn goes retrograde in Scorpio at 02:50 am PDT and will be moving in reverse until August 13th, 2016. Retrograde planets act like the nodes Rahu and Ketu, which adds to the intensity of the planet and how they will express themselves. As the slowest moving planet, Saturn causes the most prolonged challenges. It's important to play by his rules and honor his requests for slow, steady action, simplicity and alignment with nature's rhythms. Saturday, March 26th Moon in 4th tithi Moon continues through Libra and Swati nakshatra the majority of the day. Mind your breath, your life force energy, and notice if you are using it intelligently or squandering it. Be in right relationship with your inner life and let this spark increased energy and enthusiasm for living. Seek balance between inner and outer, polarities and conflicts. What parts of your being need resolution and more harmony? Let the breath help you find this union. Sunday, March 27th Moon in 5th tithi Vishaka continues to rule the day, provoking unification and increased harmony within. Challenges are a reminder to make adjustments. Ask for support, call in new resources, gather your team of guidance. Where are you resisting the support you need? Where are your actions out of alignment with your inner knowing? Reach out, connect and receive. You can not thrive without increased support. Monday, March 28th Moon in 6th tithi Moon continues to transit its debilitation sign, Scorpio, while moving through Anuradha nakshatra. Anuradha inspires growth from one's depths, rising from the mud and blossoming into wisdom and beauty- as is symbolized by the lotus flower. This constellation can bring precision and exactness, as well as inspiration and growth. For so many of us, money has not been a resource of support and stability, safety or security. In fact, it has been quite the opposite. Does money bring up fear, terror, anger, frustrations, sadness or even trauma for you? Almost everyone has a strong story (or many stories) connected to their money. The support and stability piece connected to money is important. Money is an energetic resource that can provide a sense of support in our life, as well as security, stability, and safety. It is a resource of nourishment. Our ability to be well nourished in life determines our resiliency and our sense of thriving. If there are blockages connected to receiving money, there are blockages connected to receiving nourishment. It's that simple. Do you feel rich right now? Yes or no? These feelings are creating your life. They are either helping you create more of what you do want or more of what you don’t want. It's essential to know that we do not manifest from thinking, but from our feelings. The truth is, if we aren’t receiving money, it’s a resistance to being nourished and supported on some level of our life. A resistance to getting our needs met. I guarantee this is showing up in your life on other levels for you and even causing malnutrition on multiple levels of your life. The reality is, money is just an energy that shows us where we are resisting the flow of life force energy, creativity, vitality, abundance and nourishment. These blockages can be seen in your jyotish chart as well. If we are having issues creating life, manifesting our desires into form, there must be a blockage or an obstacle that is standing in our way. The only thing stopping us is our own shadow, the illusions that we are unable to create and be powerful creators. Remember that we are only able to manifest from our feelings and therefore it is vital that we have a deep relationship with our emotional body. Sadly, this is where most people are stuck, blocked, and quite frankly emotionally illiterate. A deep relationship with your emotions is vital for manifestation. We don’t manifest with the mind, the mental body, thinking or even visualizing. This is the mistake of the entire Law of Attraction movement and the affirmations people say. The only way affirmations work is if you create a deeper relationship with the feeling of the desire. The feeling of being wealthy. The feeling of being safe in your relationships. The feeling of driving your new car. The feeling of doing joyful work in the world. But there’s a catch. Often we have hidden agendas that sabotage our ability to receive. This is often connected to feelings of safety and security. If it doesn’t feel safe to receive your desire, you won’t be able to receive it. It doesn’t matter how hard you wish, plan, set goals, etc. You won’t be nourished by your relationships, if it doesn’t feel safe on some level of your being. You won’t be wealthy if on some level you don’t feel safe having a lot of money. This is where the work begins. Tracking your emotions and noticing the physical body sensations that emerge around money will help you identify where you are stuck, resistant, avoiding, fearful, etc. It's imperative to be tracking your stories connected to money as well. The stories that are stuck in your mental body, looping on auto pilot and keeping you in old patterns of lack and malnourishment. These are very old stories! Stories that began as early as childhood and were reinforced through life experiences. Stories that may in fact be older than that! Ancestral and lineage stories that you adopted as your own. Some of these stories in fact are just very old karma that can be shifted, changed and healed. In the podcast below, I share a tapping (EFT) sequence with you that will guide you through transforming and releasing the old stories around money, while helping you awaken and receive new forms of nourishment. (I recorded this while hiking up a mountain so it's a bit rough, but truly authentic!) Use this podcast as you tap through these points: Karate chop point (side of the hand). Crown of the head. Eyebrow point (above the eye). Side of the eye. Under the eye. Under the nose. Chin point (crease of the chin). Throat point (collar bone/throat chakra). Heart point (center of chest). Stomach point (above the navel). Side body (nipple line at side of chest). Tap six to ten times on each point and just keep cycling through the points. Repeat the phrases I use aloud.
