New Moon Wisdom for the Waxing Moon Cycle Moon nears conjunction of the Sun as it becomes completely new in the wee hours of the morning on September 24th. New Moon is at 01:14 am CDT in Uttaraphalguni nakshatra while in Virgo. The coming weeks are potent- and a poignant time for working with our long term sustainability. Themes for this waxing cycle include caring for and nourishing the physical body as well as those essential ingredients for our long term sustainability. What steps do we need to take in order to insure sustainability and more lasting support and nourishment within our lives? What fruits are we hoping to harvest in the coming weeks and months? Our intentional action steps right now make or break the richness of our harvest. Aryaman, the deity who rules over Uttaraphalguni, is alive and well within us and around us- encouraging health, well being, as well as inner and outer sustenance- if we align with his offerings. Connect, co-create and use relationships intentionally in the coming weeks. Do your relationships nourish and inspire you? Or do they zap your energy and harm you? Do your actions and environments support you and offer harmony? Or do they feel harsh and abrasive? Where in your life and in your relationships are you not being authentic to your needs? If you want potency and power, it will take potent and powerful actions to get different results. Sow the seeds you want right now and ask the ancestors for help with the process. Aryaman is aligned with the ancestors to insure that your lineage is well nourished and protected, so make sure you ask for dharmic wisdom to help you on your journey. We can do so with our choices and our action steps. Think in terms of aligning with long-term sustainability, not short term gratification. Aryaman will provide for you. Trust the process and ask for support. In addition to the New Moon, September 24th marks the beginning of the Navaratri celebrations and the first day of three that honors Ma Durga. Read my past Elephant article regarding the poignancy of Navaratri. This is an especially potent and powerful time period, where we celebrate in the Vedic calendar, the holy trinity of goddesses: Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. The veil is thin right now between realms, and it is an especially powerful time for being inward, cleansing, nourishing and meditating. If you haven’t joined my 10 day Self Care Challenge, you can do so here. I'll be sharing resources, tips, and tools during this special 10 day period. Creative Ritual for the Waxing Moon Cycle Whether or not you are joining me for my 10 Day {Navaratri} Self Care Challenge, I encourage you to keep a "self care journal" during this waxing Moon cycle. Use this journal to record the steps you are taking each day to care for yourself. Record your 3 level check-ins in your journal and any steps you've taken on each day to care for yourself. This can include movement, creativity, food choices, rest and meditation, using healthy boundaries, breath awareness and your 3 level check ins- and anything else that you are using to intentionally and radically care for yourself. These journals will be an important part of the harvesting we do over the next 10 days and I will be sharing more about this as we progress through the waxing Moon cycle. I'll also be sharing more about self care in an upcoming article so look for that soon! I'm looking forward to hearing about your process and your self care steps! If you haven’t joined my 10 day Self Care Challenge, you can do so here. My 3 Levels of Awareness Immersion is Sunday, September 28th! Moon is waning and empties this week. New Moon is on Wednesday early morning at 01:14 am CDT signifying the beginning of the fall Navaratri celebrations. This nine day festival honors the holy goddess trinity of Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. The festivities culminate on the 10th day (Vijayadashami) which honors Durga's defeat of the demon Mahishasura. The sacredness of this time period is explained more in my Navaratri article. You’re invited to participate in my 10 day Self Care Challenge as a way to honor this important passage into fall and winter. Join the FB Group here.
Monday, September 22nd Today’s Intention: Find nourishment in relating and co-creating. Moon transits Leo and moves into Purvaphalguni nakshatra at 01:47 am CDT. This enlivens Venus and Bhaga, the deity of love, relationship and creativity. Bhaga is an Aditya, one of the twelve gods who provide us with resources for this life experience. He dispenses wealth and happiness, luck and fortune, as well as blessings from our past incarnations. He presides over love and marriage and is associated with pleasure, sensuality and sexuality, thus relationships are his domain- mainly the spark of new and budding relationships. Today, create, connect and share. Work consciously on relating and co-creating. How can your relationships provide a sense of nourishment and support? Which ones soothe and support? Which ones feel toxic? Pay attention to your senses and what arrives through your interactions. Venus moves into the latter half of Phalguni, Uttara, at 04:58 am CDT. Shift into a role of connection and sharing over the next 10 days. Create, express, share and connect. Create and co-create and let your relationships be part of your expansion. Let your love shine! Not feeling it? What relationships need to be pruned and removed from your life in order to create more space for the more nourishing and supportive ones? What shifts and changes need to take place within your existing relationships in order for more nourishment? Take charge of your comfort and what supports and nourishes you. This is an ideal time to be conscious of your self care needs. As we move into the beginning of Navaratri on Wednesday, now is an essential time to be intentional with our needs. Be sure to join my 10 day Self Care Challenge via FB. Tuesday, September 23rd Today’s Intention: Get your shine on! From the inside out. Today is Fall Equinox for the Northern Hemisphere. It is also Mahalaya Amavasya (Pitri Paksha), the sacred celebration of honoring the ancestors who have passed and are no longer with us. Be sure to commemorate your loved ones who have passed by lighting a candle and saying a prayer in their honor, as well as through gratitude for their many gifts to you. Moon moves to Uttaraphalguni at 04:32 am CDT, joining Venus and Sun in this nakshatra as well. We get three levels of support from Aryaman today. He is also one of the twelve Adityas like Bhaga who rules the front half of Phalguni. Like Bhaga, Aryaman gives resources, but does so through sustenance- mainly health of the body and physical stamina and strength as a result. Additionally, he also nourishes through relationships, but does so in the ways that last. Not through sensuality and sexuality, but through time, perseverance and pleasing the ancestors. As Bhaga relates to the past and past karmas, Aryaman relates to the future and what is to come; as a result he is mostly concerned with long term outcomes and situations. Moon moves to Virgo at 11:10 am CDT, joining Sun and Rahu here. These planets receive drishti from Ketu seven houses away. Be precise with your actions and relations today. Step carefully, but get noticed. Share, connect and create through relationships today. Shine brightly- inside out! Feeling shadowed or extra inward? Moon is in the 15th tithe (Moon phase) today. It’s a time to be self reflective and tend to your inner needs. Plant your seeds of desire and make your intentions known. As we move into the beginning of Navaratri tomorrow, now is an essential time to be intentional. Be sure to join my 10 day Self Care Challenge via FB. Venus is sandhi, at the edge of Leo right now. Be delicate with your relationships- both your relationship with others and with your self. Wednesday, September 24th Today’s Intention: Take an intentional pause and mark it with poignancy. Moon nears conjunction of the Sun as it becomes completely new in the wee hours of the morning. New Moon is at 01:14 am CDT in Uttaraphalguni nakshatra while Moon is in Virgo. The details of yesterday are pertinent for our coming waxing Moon cycle. The coming weeks are potent- and a poignant time for working with our long term sustainability. What steps do we need to take in order to insure sustainability and more lasting support and nourishment? What fruits are we hoping to harvest in the coming weeks and months? Our intentional action steps right now make or break the richness of our harvest. Aryaman is alive and well within us and around us- encouraging health, well being, as well as inner and outer sustenance- if we align with his offerings. Connect, co-create and use relationships intentionally in the coming weeks. Do your relationships nourish and inspire you? Or do they zap you and harm you? If you want potency and power, it will take potent and powerful actions to get different results. Sow the seeds you want right now and ask the ancestors for help with the process. Aryaman is aligned with the ancestors to insure that your lineage is well nourished and protected so make sure you ask for dharmic wisdom to help you on your journey, with choices and your action steps. Think in terms of aligning with long-term sustainability, not short term gratification. Aryaman will provide for you. Trust the process and ask for support. In addition to the New Moon, this marks the beginning of the Navaratri celebrations and the first day of three that honors Ma Durga. This is an especially potent and powerful time period, where we celebrate in the Vedic calendar, the holy trinity of goddesses: Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. The veil is thin right now between realms, and is an especially powerful time for being inward, cleansing, nourishing and meditating. If you haven’t joined my 10 day Self Care Challenge, you can do so here. Moon moves to Hasta nakshatra at 06:59 am CDT, activating Savitr and his shining light into our day. You may awaken with sparks today and find some new purpose for your actions. Allow a glimpse of awakening to inspire you through intelligence, ideas, new awareness and gratitude. Flourish through wisdom and knowledge and take time for pausing, listening and invoking your inner light with the Gayatri Mantra today. Since the Moon is passing through the middle of Sun and Rahu today, a sense of shadow can creep in as well. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, uncertain or overstimulated, be sure to use a 3 level check in for getting in touch with your felt senses. Use this inner harvesting process to get creative. Write, draw, express through your hands. Your Self Care Journal might just be the trick. Have you signed up for my 10 Day Self Care Challenge yet? Venus is sandhi, at the edge of Leo right now and hops into Virgo, its sign of debilitation at 21:14 CDT. During this 23 day transit, be delicate with your relationships- both your relationship with others and with your self. This transit re-iterates my new Moon details for the coming waxing cycle and our attention/intention to relationships of all kinds in our lives. What needs our focus in the coming weeks in regard to self care and putting our needs first? What details within your relationships needs extra TLC? How can you improve your inner nourishment and self care focus? What boundaries need to be re-established in order for your needs to get met? What re-structuring needs to take place within your relationships- personal and professional- in order for greater clarity and purpose? This is a time of getting present to your individual needs and what nourishes you. It is not a time to be using up your energy frivolously; though you may be noticing leaks more clearly at this time. Right now it’s all about the details. Let this be a resource for getting priorities and business in order. If it becomes unhelpful, then zoom out and get a bigger picture. Take a break or time out to re-center. This doesn’t have to be a time of discomfort and overwhelm; just get resource oriented. Need a reminder about self care? Be sure you follow along with my 10 day self care challenge and work intimately with your self care journal right now. Thursday, September 25th Today’s Intention: Step wisely and with purpose. Navaratri Day 2 and second day of the Durga celebrations. Have you joined my Navaratri 10 Day Self Care Challenge yet? Moon moves into Chitra nakshatra at 09:07 am CDT, joining Rahu here as well. Virgo is a full house right now with Moon, Sun, Rahu and Venus there now. Be aware that highs and lows may feel extreme- emotionally, mentally and physically. It is important to take care of health and wellness on all three levels of your being. Vishvakarma, the celestial architect, as well as Mars, play an important role in our experience today. He is a worker, the divine architect, and very product oriented. His extreme creativity, as well as action orientation (karma is a part of his name) reminds us to take potent action steps to align with our creative powers. What are you building in your life? For your life? Attend to your inner and outer needs today. As Moon passes over Rahu, don’t get lost in the mire of details and self critic. Instead, get action oriented. Take a step in the right direction today and focus on what is doable. Moon moves to Libra at 22:02 CDT, joining Mercury and exalted Saturn there. Need a reminder about self care? Be sure you follow along with my 10 day self care challenge and work intimately with your self care journal right now. Friday, September 26th Today’s Intention: Adjust your sails with intention and harness the power of the wind. Navaratri Day 3 and final day of the Durga celebrations. Have you joined my Navaratri 10 Day Self Care Challenge yet? Moon transits Libra with Mercury, and exalted Saturn, then moves into Swati nakshatra at 10:51 CDT. Both Vayu and Rahu enliven and the winds- both inner and outer- bring shifts and changes with them. The mental and emotional bodies may be in overdrive. Feeling overstimulated, excessively anxious? Not only is attention to your prana important today for calming the inner winds, but also attending to the messages of the mental and emotional bodies. Separating these two will bring greater clarity to their different messages and likely bring more awareness to what you need. Be sure to sign up for my online 3 Levels of Awareness Immersion in order to learn how to incorporate this technique into your self care practices. Saturday, September 27th Today’s Intention: Balance creates harmony. Navaratri Day 4 and the first day of the three day Lakshmi celebrations. Have you joined my Navaratri 10 Day Self Care Challenge yet? Sun jumps into Hasta nakshatra at 00:37 am CDT, offering greater insight and wisdom to us in the coming days. Tend to this flicker of light, the inner flame. Nurture it, nourish it and honor it with gentleness. Attend to this small flame with intention and recite Gayatri Mantra in the coming days as a way to cultivate your inner light and spark magic. Attend to your sensitivity with gentleness and compassion. Moon moves to Vishaka nakshatra at 12:10 CDT, enlivening Jupiter and Indragni- the dual god who attends to our sense of nourishment through alliance. Yet another opportunity to give presence to what, and who, we are aligned with in our lives. Indra and Agni remind us that two are often better than one- as long as they work in harmony and are aligned properly. Feeling pulled in too many directions? Overwhelm settling in today? Balance is key. Clear off your plate and prioritize. What are the essentials? Where are your self care needs on this list? Put your self first and then let the other pieces fall in place more naturally. Make sure physical movement is incorporated into your day. Get embodied! Sunday, September 28th Today's Intention: Zoom in and zoom out. Harmonize polarities. Navaratri Day 5 and the second day of the Lakshmi celebrations. Have you joined my Navaratri 10 Day Self Care Challenge yet? Moon has crossed over Saturn now and moves to the edge of Libra, jumping into its debilitation sign, Scorpio, at 06:51 am CDT. Moon joins Mars in Scorpio and our internal waters get charged. Expect an extra layer of sensitivity today and emotional body awareness. At 13:01 CDT, Moon moves into Anuradha nakshatra and Mitra provides increased awareness of fine detail, friendship and connection, as well as travel and adventure. Get into the details, but don't get lost in them! Feeling agitated or angered? Look for the underlying need and find solutions. My 3 Levels of Awareness Immersion is today! Monday, September 15th Today's Intention: Reach out and connect. Offer nourishment to yourself and also to those who need it. Moon is waning and transits its mulitrikona sign, Taurus, while in Mrigashirsha nakshatra. Moon receives drishtri from Mars (who is looking directly at the Moon from its own sign of Scorpio) and also from Rahu. This can intensify and agitate the internal waters. Let the indications of Mrigashirsha remind you to give yourself nourishment and care. Mrigashirsha is ruled by both Mars and also the Moon- deified as Soma. Soma is also divine nectar that brings nourishment and healing. This nakshatra is related to comfort and providing comfort to others- just as the ancient Soma plant would offer its healing and nourishment. There is a fickle nature to this nakshatra. Not only is it ruled by Chandra/Soma, the fastest moving of the nine planets, the symbol here is a deer head with antlers. The antlers keep growing, even after they fall off- like branches reaching in many directions. The antlers can also be used medicinally and correlate the crown chakra. Today, nourish your self. Tend to self care and be mindful of your emotional body wisdom. Moon moves to Gemini at 22:49 CDT. Sun is at the edge of Leo and prepares to move towards Virgo. Tuesday, September 16th Today's Intention: Move your pranic winds and work with your inner storms consciously. Moon transits Gemini, still receiving gaze from Mars, and moves into Ardra nakshatra at 11:47 am CDT. Ardra is ruled by both Rudra and Rahu and is known for his intense emotional upheavals, stormy weather and ability for intense power. Rudra is the father of the Maruts (winds) which can manifest externally in the weather as storm gods, or internally as the five types of internal Prana in the body. Proper pranic flow is what keeps the body healthy and well balanced. Using pranayama is helpful today as well as moving the prana within in order to increase circulation. Do a three level check-in to identify you internal weather conditions. Need a reminder about the 3 levels? Rahu and Mercury are in close conjunction right now. You may be noticing an extra level of intensity in your mental body as a result. Is your critic high? Is anxiety and worry increasing? Is there a sense of shadow in your mind? These are likely a result of this conjunction. Be diligent with your mental body awareness and use my recent creative ritual for tending to your inner needs. Sun jumps into Virgo at 19:17 CDT, joining Rahu and exalted Mercury there. The mental heat is on! This Sun transit may offer some shadowed self experiences as well as greater attention to detail. Catch your self in moments of low self esteem, shadowed thinking and uncertainty. Be aware of anxiety and mental turmoil, as well as binary thinking. Don't get stuck in details and mind your communications. Some may also feel a grandeur sense of possibility and motivation this month with diligence, direction and clarity in worldly actions. Mind your mental body right now and don't let it overrule you! Additionally, mind your gut. Both are essential for sharp intuitive guidance. Meditation may be extra helpful this month when the mental body feels overwhelming. Wednesday, September 17th Today's Intention: Be intentional with your imagination. Work consciously with your mental body and let the wisdom of the emotional and physical bodies inform your needs. Mercury and Rahu are in exact conjunction today. Use yesterday's reminders and be diligent with taming your mental body. Let the 3 levels of awareness inform you needs. It may help to get out of excess details. Zoom out. Moon moves to Punarvasu at 14:08 CDT where Aditi and Jupiter offer a more gentle approach to us. Can we soften and listen to their guidance? Aditi and Jupiter bring expansion, wisdom and insight. Their thoughtful universality may help us smooth out the previous days of tension and mental agitation. Still, the mental body is wound a bit tight right now and needs to be reminded to relax. Expect that you will be needing to do this consciously. When you pick up the mental body awareness and bring presence to the thoughts that are coming, keep the reminder alive that the mental body is also the imaginal realm. We get to create whatever we want here. Pay attention, however, to the response of the emotional body and the physical body. Harvest the sensations and awareness that comes to you and take it into movement, art and songs. Get your stories moving and get embodied! Thursday, September 18th Today's Intention: Seek nourishment through the dance of open and close dynamics. What are you inviting in and what are closing off to? Sync with the rhythm of your heart and your breath. Moon moves from Gemini into its own sign, Cancer, at 10:10 am CDT and then moves into Pushya nakshatra at 16:53 CDT. In Cancer, Moon conjuncts exalted Jupiter and receives drishti (gaze) from both Ketu and Saturn. This increases the expansion/contraction themes at play as well as insights into our attachments. Pushya is ruled by Brihaspati (Jupiter deified) as well as Saturn. With the Cancer experience, our attention on boundaries, open and close dynamics and expansion and contraction are enlivened. Yet Pushya provides nourishment as a mother cow gives milk to her calf. Pay attention to how you are being nourished and what is providing this nourishment. Where can you feel this sensation in the body? At the same time be present to what you are inviting in and closing off to. Be conscious about your boundaries- energetic, personal and within relationships. Listen to what your needs are and attend to yourself with compassion, self care and sensitivity. Need to remember how to get back home? Use my recent creative ritual for tending to your need for comfort. Friday, September 19th Today's Intention: What deceptions and illusions are keeping you from your own sense of nourishment? Themes from the previous day about boundaries, nourishment and the rhythm of the heart prevail. Work consciously with the heart rhythm, the chest and ribcase area, as well as the breath. Let your inhales and exhales move you and explore their effects on your body. This is nature's natural expression of open and close dynamics. Sync with your innate rhythm. Need a reminder about how the 3 levels of awareness can help you navigate your inner needs? Moon moves into Ashlesha nakshatra at 19:50 CDT and Sarpa emerges. Moon joins Jupiter in this nakshatra as well so we will likely get a magnification of these nourishment and boundary concerns. Ashlesha is ruled by Mercury (mental body) and Sarpa, a snake who navigates deception and illusion. Look for mental body snags and snares and an intensity with what is being churned up inside of you. We may be questioning ourselves more today and questioning our ability to find support and comfort. Remember to come back to the sensation of nourishment in your body. Where do you feel it? How does it emerge? The body's messages will lead you to awareness. Mercury is sandhi and moving to the edge of its sign of exaltation (Virgo), poised to move into Libra. Take this mental intensity into consideration. As the Moon continues to empty and lose light, we may be feeling this turning inward more as well. Let this time of inner exploration be intentional. Moon is now in the 12th tithi of the waning cycle. Use this time for increased awareness. Saturday, September 20th Today's Intention: Life is movement, shifts and changes. The mental body is no different. Move it, help it move and be witness to its movements. Moon continues to transit Ashlesha nakshatra today. There may be a continued sense of churning and agitation in the mental body as a result of transiting Mercury. Since Mercury is sandhi and moving to the edge of its sign of exaltation (Virgo), poised to move into Libra, a certain level of mental intensity should be taken into consideration. Continue to resource nourishment and small moments of comfort. Let these moments inform the nourishment you need, how you feel it and where you feel it in the physical body. How can this sensation of comfort be a valuable resource for you as you continue to navigate you needs? Need to remember how to get back home? Use my recent creative ritual for tending to this awareness of comfort. Mercury moves to Libra at 15:19 CDT joining exalted Saturn here. This transit brings forward momentum and the retrograde motion of Mercury as well. Mercury moves quickly and reminds us of the constant changes of the mind. He will be in Libra now until he moves back into Virgo on 10.16. His movement into Libra helps us touch upon greater balance, our needs within our relationships, and can provide support with commerce and business. Expect swift movement and momentum. Try not to get lost and blown away in the wind. Moon moves to Leo and jumps into Magha nakshatra at 22:51 CDT. Sunday, September 21st Today's Intention: Empty and release what is not yours. Invite in and hold sacred the parts you wish to keep as your own. Moon transits Leo and Magha nakshatra, enlivening Ketu's influence as well as Pitr- the ancestors. Moon also joins Venus in Leo. Creativity and connection may be extra quick and/or harsh today. We may be influenced more by our ancestors in our thoughts and actions. Be aware of your relationship with these influences and see how they impact your needs. Do you need connection or alone time? Memories or release from the past? Take a moment at least to honor your lineage for what it is, what it has brought to you. How it has helped you arrive at this moment on your map of evolution? Find some gratitude for your roots. Moon is slowly emptying and moves to the 14th tithi of the waning cycle late in the evening. What have you been releasing over the past few weeks and what are you ready to finally let go of now? New Moon is on the 24th as Navaratri begins. This is a very sacred time of year, so let the ancestors help you bring presence to your needs at this time. Need some extra guidance and clarity? Schedule a session with me. Plan your week in tune with nature. Never miss a planetary update. Sign up for my weekly newsletter. Was this post helpful? Please share it with a friend! Thank you. Markers of Sensitivity in Your Jyotish Chart.
Knowing that I am sensitive has helped me a great deal to accept my unique needs. As a result, I've known that I respond to life differently than most. That I need more time for recovery from travel, stressful situations, and that I need extra alone time to cope with life in general. My body has told me my entire life that it needs extra TLC. As a result I've been forced to change habits, my lifestyle, diet and more, in order to have any sense of well being. It's been a challenging existence much of the time. But as I've gained skills, awareness and resources, I've been able to manage and work with my sensitivity in more helpful ways. An ongoing process indeed! These days, however, I'm beginning to realize just how much of a gift my sensitivity is. I've been sharing a lot more about my sensitive reality recently. I've realized over the years that the majority of my clients are in fact like me, extra sensitive, and this is part of their personal struggle and turmoil. Many of their "sensitivity struggles" are why they are seeking out my assistance to begin with. Learning best practice for your own sensitivity is vital for increased fulfillment in life. I suggest looking at your sensitivity and the changes that have to be made in your lifestyle as an opportunity for self realization, increased awareness, and as part of your path to unique greatness. Cultivating a relationship with your sensitivity can in fact help you develop your innate creativity, intuitive gifts, and be an offering to others who are walking a similar path. In fact, embracing your sensitivity can often lead you directly to your dharma and life purpose! (Which I will be sharing more about shortly so stay tuned!) The Role of Jyotish in Our Sensitivity Jyotish has been a part of my path for many years. I had my first chart done at age seven, and though I found it intriguing and helpful in many regards, every jyotishi I've ever been to has seen my sensitivity as a hindrance to career and fulfillment in my life. Not a very positive outlook for an already inward and sensitive individual! To complicate matters, no jyotishi was ever able to tell me why I am sensitive, and how that was manifesting in my life based on my chart details. Nor did they tell me how they saw that in my chart, what it means for my life, and what some tools might be for helping me work more effectively with this sensitivity. It was clear that my dharma and career would be impacted and there wasn't much hope given for these areas of my life. "Slow start with career" they would say, or "very creative". But their advice for my life was always the same: "meditation, ayurveda, good routine." These are of course helpful tools, even vital, for me and other sensitive individuals. They have been life savers in many regards, but interestingly I'm now realizing I need to re-adjust even these tools to better suit my sensitivity! Along the way, and by looking at many charts over the years, while tracking the types of clients who arrive at my door, I've started to see certain markers of sensitivity in jyotish charts. There is a spectrum of sensitivity we may experience based on the planetary influences in our jyotish chart that will effect our life experiences and felt senses. As Dr. Elaine Aron's speaks intimately about in her book, many sensitive people are artists, musicians, thinkers, philosophers, and highly gifted with strong imaginations. As I look at jyotish charts of sensitive people. I am not surprised. I've come to understand there is quite a spectrum of sensitivity that occurs. It develops in a myriad of ways based on many different types of conditioning. There are as many possibilities as there are jyotish charts! But there are markers and ways to identify it from a Jyotish perspective. Below are some things to look for in your own chart in order for you to track your self more effectively. This is based on my personal experience, my study of multiple charts and individuals, as well as my intuitive understanding. These are basic markers by the way. Often the web of energy is much more complex in the overall chart, but having any one of these indications will provoke sensitivity for you. Part of what I am looking at in a jyotish chart are the effects on the emotional body (Moon), mental body (Mercury) and the physical body (Saturn as well as Sun). The three levels of awareness, essentially. The Moon is my main concern for sensitivity as it relates to our emotions and our intuition as well as our "felt sense" of life. The Moon plays a big role in our overall intelligence as well as our creativity. Read why the Moon is so important. Admittedly, the Moon is a huge part of my overall life's work- personally and professionally. And from a jyotish and Vedic perspective, the Moon holds many valuable pieces of wisdom for our experience of life. It's definately worth studying! I will speak mostly about the effects on the Moon here, but understand that these planetary effects on Mercury (mental body) and Sun (physical soul body) will cause specific sensitivities to these bodies as well. Note that the more markers you have effecting mental, emotional and physical bodies, the greater the overall sensitivity you will be experiencing- as well as their interactions with each other. Understanding Your Moon Moon + Saturn Saturn is the planet of structure, form and our karmas. He brings grief and suffering and rules time. Saturn touching the Moon by conjunction (same house) as the Moon will increase the emotional sensitivity in often extreme ways. This can bring heightened depression, grief, disappointments and sense of discouragement. These tendencies may appear if Saturn aspects the moon with his drishti- three, seven or ten houses away from him. His effects on Mercury, and Sun will give sensitivity to the mind and body as well. If Saturn is in the gap between signs (sandhi) then expect an increased physical sensitivity which can result in embodiment or physical issues. This can manifest as either a struggle staying in the body or with awareness of the body, and of course health issues. With work and focus, however, this can develop into a gifted somatic wisdom. Read more about sandhi planets + Saturn. A Saturn Atma Karaka (soul planet) can indicate extra sensitivity and will likely result in Saturn being a predominant force somehow in the overall chart. Working with suffering (individually) and as a part of one's path are indicated (due to personal experience!) Also, any planet that is in a nakshatra ruled by Saturn will offer the gifts of Saturn and can increase the sensitivity of the planet in that nakshatra. For example, Moon in Uttarabhadrapada, ruled by Saturn, will increase the sensitivity of the Moon and other indications of the chart will likely refine this understanding. Moon + Ketu Moon touched by Ketu will also increase the sensitivity of the emotional body. Ketu is a lunar node, not a true planet. As the "tail of the serpent" his role is to provide moksha- enlightenment. He does so by snipping our attachments, forcing us to let go of what we are gripping in this life time. When he connects with the Moon, he increases sensitivity by disruption. Since Ketu is a planet of re-structuring and deconstruction, the gentleness of the Moon is in a constant state of extra fragility. This can manifest as easy agitation, very sudden emotional outbursts, anger and frustration at the slightest changes or disturbances. There is an underlying sense of not "being in control" which can often manifest as needing extra control in one's life. When Ketu touches the Moon, it is hyper aware and overly alert. It is like having antennae up all the time. I think of this as a very thin emotional membrane that needs extra protection and vigilance in order for a sense of nurturing to be felt. There were likely issues very early on that increased this "over-stimulation" and exacerbated the sensitivity of the felt senses, so those with Ketu/Moon connections need to be very gentle with themselves and cultivate a life to counter the extra sensitivity. Since Ketu is not a planet and has no head, he can't give gaze or drishti. However, I consistently see his effects from a five, seven and nine aspect give results, so look for this to play a big role in your Moon's experience even if they aren't conjunct in the same house. Ketu/Moon connections can bring increased intuition (of a psychic level) if cultivated and nurtured. On the other end of the spectrum there can be a complete emotional numbing from constantly "cutting" over the emotions and essentially bypassing them altogether. As I mentioned with nakshatras ruled by Saturn, the same holds true for Ketu. If the Moon is in a nakshatra ruled by Ketu (Ashwini for example), expect this Ketu/Moon sensitivity to be relevant as well. Ketu cannot be an Atma Karaka (soul planet) because he is not of this world. The amount of Ketu in the chart through placement, nakshatras etc. however plays a valuable role in our sensitivity overall. Moon + Rahu Just like the tail of the serpent (Ketu), the head of the serpent (Rahu) brings his effects to the Moon as well. Instead of cutting attachments, Rahu increases them. He has a voracious appetite and increases obsession and desire, while also providing a sense of shadow or illusion with him. He is the ultimate veil of maya. When he touches the Moon, he brings his shadowed self with him. The Moon feels this sense of illusion and shadowed self, resulting in a toxic emotional body. It can feel extreme, intense and overwhelming much of the time. It can drive addictions, using drugs and alcohol to suppress or numb the emotional intensity. Rahu with the Moon distorts the sense of Self and often results in more extreme self esteem issues, playing victim, martyrdom and helplessness. I've seen a spectrum of narcissism associated with this connection which is essentially an extremely imploded self identity and very low self regard. Rahu can inflate the ego (he is smoke and mirrors and very worldly- of this world). Rahu gives his gaze to five, seven and nine houses away. So if he touches your Moon he can offer some of his illusions in this way as well. Nakshatras ruled by Rahu are notorious for high impact. Ardra for example is ruled by Rahu and is symbolized by a tear. There is intense emotion available through this nakshatra which can be used for many purposes. As with anything, it is how the experience is used. Do we choose to use our intensity with awareness, as a tool, or misuse it through ignorance and lack of awareness? Rahu reminds us to continue our path, to keep walking and to keep working with our shadow consistently. Rahu as an Atma Karaka (soul planet) will provide another element to sensitivity. Since Rahu is the planet of confusion, he can offer uncertainty and getting tangled up in deception. For sensitive types with Rahu AK, working on issues with deception and illusion are paramount. If you have Moon conjunct Ketu or Rahu (in the same house), note that these two are always seven houses away from each other. Your Moon will be impacted by both types of sensitivity. For more on Rahu and Ketu and the effects of these shadow planets go here. Other Things to Keep in Mind These are some sensitivity markers for the Moon, but the interaction of Moon, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu with the rest of the chart, the other planets, and the houses involved, all play a major role as well. Additionally, Nakshatras connect to the emotional body, and tithis (Moon phases) are connected to the mental body. The role of these, as well as the movement of the Moon daily as the nakshatras and tithis change, will also impact our sensitivity as they interact with our own personal chart. Additionally, the individual's dashas (planetary cycles) will increase or decrease the sensitivity markers within your chart. Keep this in mind as there will be time periods where you need to be more mindful of your sensitivity- or be forced to! In case it isn't obvious, the signs ruled by the Moon are sensitive by default. This includes Cancer, ruled by the Moon and a water sign. Taurus (where Moon is exalted) is not known for its sensitivity intrinsically, but depending on placement of the Moon in the chart and other factors, can display signs of sensitivity. Scorpio is a sensitive sign by default as the Moon is considered debilitated here and it's connected to the 8th house- the most vulnerable of the twelve houses. Read more about the sensitive nature of Scorpio here. Water signs will always be experiencing life from a "feeling" level and will increase sensitivity and receptivity as a result. Water and Moon are intimately intertwined with our emotional body and felt senses. The water signs include: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. The more water present in the chart- according to signs, nakshatras and the placement of these, will increase or decrease the sensitivity. Also, any planet in one of the hidden houses (6th, 8th or 12th) will make the planets therein naturally sensitive, more vulnerable as a result, and needing our extra attention/intention. The Moon in one of these houses will make its sensitivity doubly so. Fourth house is the home of our emotions (the heart center and lungs) as well as Mother, and naturally is ruled by the Moon. Keep in mind that all planets connected to the fourth house (either natally or by transit) will impact your relationship with the emotional body. This information can also be applied to one's navamsa (a 9th house divisional chart) and should be used to address strengths and weaknesses of the sensitivity markers. The navamsa relates to the inner realms of a being; how a person experiences themselves on the inside. In many regards this will share more details about how a person experiences their sensitivity and the impact it has on their overall life experience. With all of this said, it's important realize that the overall chart is a web of interconnected energies and stories- an imprint of your karmic map. So we must take a holistic approach when looking at this map. What I've given here are tendencies, and the many variables at play within the chart, will increase or decrease the sensitivity of a person based on the feeling level of the Moon, as well as the rest of the planets. "Use this waning cycle to bring presence to your path, your struggles and challenges. Honor yourself for your steps, your wisdom gained, and the many obstacles you have overcome. Work diligently to both honor your struggles and also reflect on the openings and progress also alive currently in your life. Look for possibilities, doors that are opening and steps you can take towards them. When you feel the burdens and the struggles overwhelming you, dance, walk, move. Work with themes of balance, steadiness, patience, one step at a time. Honor your feet and their wisdom." The coming new Moon marks the beginning of Navaratri, the nine days of Mother Divine. This is a particularly auspicious junction point in the cycles and rhythms of nature. Navaratri happens in both fall (Maha Navaratri) and spring (Vasant Navaratri). This is a very precious and sensitive time period where the veils between realms are very thin. Fall Maha Navarati marks the beginning of change- the passage into a more inward, silent and transformational time period; it marks the nearing of an ending cycle. The nine days of festivity honors our change, obstacles and struggles, as well as overcoming these obstacles with nourishment, support and wisdom from the divine Mothers Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati. I will be sharing much more about this powerful sandhi (junction) point of the seasons in the coming weeks and how to best utilize this time period. Expect a special Self Care "challenge" in order to encourage more inward awareness at this time. My 3 Levels of Awareness Immersion is part of this. Sign up early for the best rate. Horoscopes for the Waning Moon Cycle {September 9th to 24th} *Horoscopes are based on your Vedic rising sign. You can also check your Moon and Sun signs for further insight. Do the same with your Navamsa signs for further clarity. Do not use these horoscopes with your “Western Sign” as there is likely no correlation. These horoscopes are meant to be used as a broad overview of the current transits and obviously do not address the specifics of an individual’s unique chart. Aries: Self care and healing continue to be a big theme for you. Figuring out how to balance inner needs and outer demands, while carefully attending to your health and well being are essential. Your power resides in your depths- which may feel more palpable right now. In order to harness and maximize your potential, pay attention to your inner resources and strengths. The past will be reminding you of what doesn't work, so pay extra attention to what does- so you can reinforce the new, rather than the old. Relationships and networking will require extra diligent communication in the coming weeks, so prepare now. Work with boundaries, needs and expressing them consciously. Use the 3 level check in for cultivating presence. Taurus: You've been learning how to increase stability and support in your life with the help of Saturn. This has required courage and working with your discomfort and dis-ease as well. Let the wisdom of Saturn ripen you as he finishes his 2.5 year transit through your 6th house in the next few months. The passion you are carrying with you in heart and home matters, with mother and emotions, leads you towards increased passion, play, romance and creativity; especially as Sun moves into your 5th house on the 16th. If confusion sets in, this may undermine your comfort level. Try to find the need that is underneath the worry, doubt, anxiousness. Remember to work consciously with your discomfort and mental/emotional bodies and not bypass them. Use the 3 level check in for cultivating presence. Gemini: For you, comfort, nourishment and support are the strongest draws. What does that mean for you and where can you find it? Career feels joyfully fleeting which can bring both discouragement and excitement. How can this become a resource and an inspiration, rather than a source of fear? Attending to debts and healing are top priorities right now. Relationships continue to require health boundaries- which will go a long way in helping your needs for comfort and support. Emotional body work is both a priority and a necessity. Are you cutting and pasting over your felt senses? Or paying extra attention to them? Let your feelings be a source of creativity for you and shine a flash light on heart matters in the weeks to come- especially once Sun moves to your 4th house on 9.16. Cultivate your steps for returning home. Cancer: Self expansion continues to be your main theme. How's that working for you? Self expression is powerfully connected to your sense of comfort and nourishment. Cultivate your steps for returning home. Are you voicing your needs effectively? Creativity is fully charged, but unless you can turn this into doable, bite sized pieces, your overwhelm will get you no where. Be sure to make daily attainable goals your priority and take action steps that will amount to success over time. What you do today will (with consistent action) will turn into long term success. Heart, home, boundaries and relationships require more of the same. Let play, passion and romance be part of your plan of action. Leo: The shine and brightness moves you into a sense of increased comfort, nourishment and support as Sun moves into your 2nd house on the 16th. See if you can carry the new self awareness and self development of the past Sun cycle into a greater understanding of your needs and wants. Can you express them effectively? With tact and compassion? Can others receive your message? You are courageously working with how to relate and be in relation with others. What are your greatest needs for safety and support? How can you get your needs met in a mindful, healthy way? This awareness will have surprising effects on your abundance and increase in harmony- so attend to the details. FYI, it's all connected to your heart wisdom and emotional body. Use the 3 level check in for cultivating presence. Virgo: Confusion seems to bring with it a sense of worry, anxiety and uncertainty. Chalk it up to Rahu in your head (1st house!) As Sun moves to your head as well after the 16th, expect some extra attention to be needed with your sense of self, self confidence and your ability to shine. Be courageous with your creativity and artistry and use this as part of your nourishment and self care practice. Work on communicating your needs effectively as well as self expression and vocalizing healthy boundaries. Your relationships depend on it. Right now, working on issues of comfort, nourishment and support are vital to your sense of self and self development, as well as how you relate and who you relate to. Use the 3 level check in for cultivating presence and working with boundaries. Libra: Refer to my Saturn article for reminders about his wisdom. What is best practice when Saturn is sitting in your head? As he finishes out his 2.5 year transit in your first house, you may be feeling the extra pressure taking hold. Career, creativity, courage and relationships are likely part of the equation. It's important to expand slowly right now, to attend to your self care and find ways to get extra support in your life. You may be wanting to retreat more right now, so allow ample alone time, travel time, and go on retreats- in order for self preservation. This need will increase as Sun moves to your 12th house on the 16th, so surrender to this trend for the coming month. Expect the silence to increase your creativity. Go with it. Scorpio: The teacher in you is filled and overflowing with wisdom. Ample creativity and a desire to connect, share and inspire are driving you right now. It's a time of dharma! With Mars in your 1st house, action steps and activation are more attainable, so plot your next moves thoughtfully. Courage is still required for your communications and connections, but don't be afraid to be bold and daring. Using computers and the internet can be your best friend in order to get the job done. Balance your need for silence with your push to achieve right now. See how the silence and separation you require can be an asset to you and your offerings. Work with self trust issues and cultivate your steps for returning home. Sagittarius: Taking alone time, traveling and going on retreat are helpful and time well spent, though this may take some effort and courage to accomplish. Away time and being off your normal routine will give some new insights and offer a new perspective. But cultivate your steps for returning home in order to maximize the experience. The past and old friends may offer some comfort for you. Give some gratitude for who is walking with you and let go of those who need to be removed from your list of old support. The wisdom you are gathering at this time is ripening. As Sun moves to your 10th house of career on the 16th, let your wisdom be an offering. Share it and offer it in a bigger way. Connect, create, communicate for greater gains. Capricorn: Expect gains from friendships and with home and land, heart and emotions, but navigate these territories with consciousness. Relationships are expansive in general for you right now and you are likely feeling the extra support as a result. Still, some fragility remains until Sun moves into your 9th house on the 16th. A new level of courage will be required of you at that point. Courage to share, shine, connect and create in new ways- and perhaps missing pieces of your dharmic path will materialize in order to help you. Saturn provides stability for career, but remember that slow and steady is how you will win the race. What are your steps for returning home? Aquarius: Career is feeling the momentum and charge. Are you? Connections and relationships have been extra energized lately and reminding you how to be courageous and creative in the process. It's through your steadiness, however, that you find the nourishment and support you need to step forward. Find moments of pause to reflect and re-center and remember you can't be in the giving role all the time. How does it feel when you receive? Where do you feel this in your body? Can you sense the nourishment or do you cast it off as insignificant? Nourish and be nourished. As Sun moves to your 8th house on the 16th, get ready for an extra long pause. Use the 3 level check in for cultivating presence. Pisces: Snipping and cutting, restructuring and deconstructing. These are powerful themes for you right now as Ketu sits in your head (1st house). What are you consciously letting go of and releasing? What are you keeping and holding onto? What are your steps for returning home? Play, fun, romance, students and children can provide much growth and wisdom for you so pay attention to them. At the same time, insights are gained from the past, from the elderly and from the slow ripening of time so be a witness. As Sun moves to your 7th house of relationships on the 16th, work consciously with relationship themes. What needs to be healed and honored? What needs to be unveiled and awakened? How can more fun and passion be incorporated into your connections? Let go of the old and invite in the new. Need some extra guidance and clarity? Schedule a session with me.
