One of the biggest questions I hear from my clients is: How do I connect with the ancestors? This is especially valuable during times of grief and loss, but the ancestors are also vital for the dharmic path. Most people are unaware of the support that Spirit and the ancestors can offer during life challenges and for life path clarity. We often forget that the well ancestors are here to help us and guide us. When a loved one transitions to Spirit, they are available to support us in ways that were not possible when they were in human form. So often though, we attach our human experiences to our relationships with our ancestors. Because of resentments, challenges, the hard parts of that relationship dynamic, we may resist connecting with this person even when they move to the Spirit world. It's an important part of the grief journey in fact- to identify and honor the human feelings, while also making space for something new to arrive. In this process of releasing undigested emotions, a new possible relationship can form with Spirit. Resisting and avoiding these undigested emotions that are an inevitable part of the relationship, will keep you from being able to connect with the ancestors. This is the main reason why so many people do not feel connected to their ancestors at all. The resistance or avoidance to the grief, challenging emotions, painful memories, wounds and lineage traumas, can result in a severing and avoidance of the ancestral connection. This is a powerful reason to attend to your grief diligently and to use it as a resource for healing. When we honor our emotional body- all of it- we also honor our humanity. Clearing, releasing and attending to the feelings, emotions and grief that come with the territory of relationships, also helps create space for the new. If the body is clogged with undigested grief and emotions, then there will literally be no space for something else to arrive. Releasing the grief allows new life to flow, as well as greater resiliency to arrive. Clearing grief from the bodies, allows space for Spirit to arrive, and also supports the possibility of building a relationship with the ancestors. When we lose the connection with our ancestors, we also lose the thread of dharma, legacy and the powerful resources that create the fabric of the family line. Remember that the human relationship with your ancestors is not the whole story. We must attend to the human parts, while also holding space for Spirit. Once a loved one merges with Spirit, they can become an ally, a support- in ways that weren't possible when they were in human form. There is in fact an opportunity to create a new relationship with them after they drop the confines of the body container. Connecting with the ancestors allows us to build a new relationship with those in Spirit- even if we had a challenging relationship with them while they were a human, or even if we had no connection with them at all. Your willingness to be honest with your feelings, grief, emotions and personal mythology, is a gateway to clearing, healing and releasing the wounds, trauma and challenges that are hidden in your lineage. The ancestors are not living and therefor can not change, transform or evolve- not without your help. You are the thread that helps them move forward. You are the living being that can help the lineage change, transform and grow. Your healing journey and dharmic path are crucial to the transformation of your ancestors and family line. If you choose to not do your dharmic work, to resist your life purpose and the healing necessary for that to take form, it will seriously impact the lineage and the growth of the ancestors. Dharma is the most powerful way to honor the ancestors. From a Vedic perspective, there is nothing higher than dharma. In fact, that is the only reason you incarnated into a human body. Yet most people who arrive in a human body never fully align with their life path or life purpose in their life time. Sadly, the obstacles, fears, illusions and obstructions to the path keep most people from fully embracing their dharma. Unfortunately this resistance to dharma negatively impacts the ancestors as well. Adharma, that which is against dharma, perpetuates ignorance and suffering. The healing, growth and vitality of the family lineage decays when dharma is lost. Generations of undigested emotions, unprocessed grief and trauma, has resulted in the loss of dharma globally. These days it is very challenging to align with ones dharma. My definition of dharma is one that requires reciprocity. By awakening and sharing your gifts, wisdom and purpose with the world, you are healing yourself, your lineage and others in the process. This requires great diligence and self reflection. It is not a path that everyone chooses to take, or even realizes is available to them. The connection to the ancestors is also weakened when adharma sets in. As is the path of healing necessary to awaken one's gifts, purpose and the wisdom within one's lineage. Remember that it is also the time of Kali Yuga in the Vedic Calendar. This is a time of great decay and chaos. Dharma is almost non-existent. Finding one's path is a miraculous feat. However, it is said, that if and when you are able to align with your dharma, you will have an easier time becoming fully awakened and enlightened. Dharma and awakening go hand in hand. Building a relationship with the ancestors is vital for healing and transformation. A relationship with the ancestors is also extremely important for strengthening one's dharmic path. The ancestors are here, ready for you to ask them for support, resources and guidance. They truly want a relationship with you. The ancestors can come in many forms, through multiple experiences, and arrive in a variety of ways. Sometimes you will feel their presence, other times they will arrive through imagery. Often my mother and father send message to me through owl and hawk medicine. You will come to realize their messages the more you invite it into your life. Remember that Nature might also share ancestral wisdom with you. A message from the ancestors could arrive through the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual bodies. Listen carefully. There are well ancestors and unwell ancestors. Guides and helping spirits. Animal guides and Nature spirits. The ancestral pool of all ancestors, as well as your personal lineage. There are helpful ancestors and mischievous ones. We want to be clear about what ancestors we are choosing to connect with. It is also important to let them know what is acceptable to you and what is not. I remember one of my teachers sharing a powerful reminder about setting boundaries and intentions with the ancestors. Dagara elder, Sobonfu Some, said that she would often yell and curse at her ancestors, then starve them for days if she was angry at them. Don't forget that you are in charge of the relationship! Let them know how you feel- whether it's anger, rage, sadness, grief, joy or gratitude. Your emotions are like food to them. They eat it, compost it, return it to pure energy. Your job is to acknowledge it and release it. Keep your emotional body moving, flowing and dancing like a river. Building a relationship with the ancestors is like any other relationship. It requires diligence, consistency, presence, and willingness. In order to strengthen the connection to your ancestors, you must be willing to feed them regularly. I suggest feeding them daily and creating rituals to support this process. Here are six ways to feed your ancestors and strengthen the connection you have with them: 1) Create an altar or shrine dedicated to the ancestors. Create this altar facing east if possible (so you are facing east when you look at it). East is the direction of the dawn and the intention is to bring light to your self and your lineage. Gather items that remind you of your ancestors to place on the shrine. Statues, photos, mementos, offerings from Nature, etc. Place something living on the altar- like a plant. A bowl of spring water (preferably) and sea salt can help clear blockages within the emotional body. Refresh this water regularly and never let it stagnate. Bring offerings to your altar consistently and thank the ancestors for their wisdom. Light a candle, burn palo santo and invoke your intention to connect with the ancestors regularly. Remember to keep this altar clean. Do not create this altar in your bedroom, bathroom or kitchen. Find a common living space or create it outdoors. 2) Bring offerings of food. Cooking and feeding the ancestors a portion of your meals is one of the most precious ways I like to connect with my ancestors. This is a powerful symbol of gratitude, honoring and literally connecting with your ancestors through the quality of life force. As you cook your meals each day, put a small amount of your food in a bowl and place it on your altar. Let your ancestors know why you are feeding them- what you are grateful for and what needs you have. Do not let this food sit longer than 24 hours. Once the ancestors have been sufficiently fed, compost the food, let it return to Nature, or feed it to an animal companion. You can also eat the food yourself as a way to imbibe the spirit of the ancestors. 3) Grief Rituals. Attending to your grief is one of the most important parts of building a relationship with the ancestors. Your emotions are like food for them. They receive your grief and eat it like food. They are hungry for your grief, craving it even. Your ability to touch your pain, struggles, suffering and unprocessed emotions, can be supported significantly by the ancestors. They are truly here to support you in this process. Regular grieving is necessary for maintaining health and balance within your entire body. Unprocessed emotions collect within the body and need to be purged regularly in order to create space for life, joy and abundance. Creating a practice of attending to your grief not only allows you to feed the ancestors, but also to release and purge that which is stagnant in your body. If you are able to participate in structured grief rituals multiple times a year, this is ideal. Think of it like a seasonal grief cleanse! 4) Create rituals in your life. Rituals are like spiritual containers. They provide a sacred structure for touching the unseen, the hidden, the realms beyond the mundane. Ritual reminds us there is more to life beyond this veil of illusion. Rituals can be simple or extravagant. I'm suggesting simple, consistent rituals that help you touch into Spirit regularly. Creating daily touch stones to help you connect, is a helpful part of building a relationship with the ancestors. The simplest form of this is to simply make it a daily practice to pause and check, listen and notice. To not only bring presence to Spirit, but also your entire body- physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Pause, check, notice and breathe. What is arriving? Where are you feeling connected? Disconnected? Can you feel a connection to Spirit? Or do you feel disconnected? What messages are arriving? 5) Spend time in nature. Remember that Nature is Spirit and Spirit is Nature. They are one and the same. When we spend sufficient time in Nature, we are more easily able to merge with Her wisdom. We align with the oneness that is inherent within all of us, and surrounding us. Nature can bring a sense of awe, and remind us how powerful Spirit truly is. Spend time with Nature daily if possible. Set an intention to use this as your time to connect with the ancestors. The ancestors live in rock, tree, sky, earth, animal and on and on. Notice what messages Spirit can share with you about your truth, purpose, and ancestral wisdom. Ask for messages and listen carefully for the answers. 6) Awaken your dharma. Your life path and purpose is the ultimate way to feed the ancestors. There is no greater gift to your lineage and to those who have come before you. As you align with your truth and inner wisdom, as you awaken and share your gifts with the world, you bless your lineage in the process. You and the ancestors are both blessed with the gifts and abundance of this journey. Dharma requires that you are willing to lean into your challenges, grief, pain, struggles and suffering. It implies that you are willing to transform, heal and grow as a result of honestly and courageously leaning closer to your shadow. Dharma is not a passive journey, and it is not for the faint of heart. However, the rewards go beyond this life time, beyond this earthly realm. Living your purpose, sharing your gifts in this world and helping others heal and awaken in the process, is the most powerful offering you could ever offer your lineage! Remember that your ancestors are always near. They are waiting anxiously for you to acknowledge them, to welcome them into your life. Allow yourself to be willing to receive their message- in all shapes and forms. Be curious and present in the ways they show up. Even if no messages arrive, keep showing up anyway. Eventually, the space you are creating for them to arrive will pay off. Above all, attend to your grief and lean into your healing journey. This is why I lose clients... “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves: Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?" ~ Marianne Williamson This is one of my favorite quotes because it's so true. And yet it's not enough just to know you are powerful beyond measure. Plenty of people know this truth, yet their life never changes to reflect it. The reason is, we all have inner set points. Set points within our emotional, mental and physical bodies that tell us what is "safe" and acceptable. These set points are created in early childhood (even before) and unconsciously create the blue print of your life. These set points determine how much discomfort and agony feels "acceptable" to you, how much challenge, pain and discomfort is "normal" for you. How much debt, loss, heartache, health challenges or disempowerment is "allowed" for you. As you can imagine, these inner set points are extremely limiting. They limit your ability to change your life- make more money, have more nourishing relationships, align with your dharma, receive pleasure, have lasting health, step into greater empowerment and so much more. Every time you bump up against one of these inner set points, it will push you back into your "comfort zone"- whatever feels normal to you- even if it's extremely painful and uncomfortable. These set points have been your normal for a very long time. They have been the normal for your tribe, your lineage, for even longer. These old set points, are often vows that are taken, unconsciously, to keep you loyal to your tribe of origin. This is why they are so challenging to uproot and change. Lasting, sustainable change requires identifying and confronting these inner set points, then transforming them and healing the vows. But here's the biggest problem: Just as you begin to unravel and uproot these inner set points, there's often a sabotage dynamic that kicks in to insure you don't go past your old "comfort zone". Much of this has to do with familial and tribal vows that we have taken, trauma from repeated cycles of loss, painful rejection and past disappointments. This powerful, old subconscious programming will suck you back into your old set points very elegantly and very strategically. Often people will attract situations, experiences, relationships and even make choices that align them with their old patterns and behaviors, just as progress, change and transformation is starting to take root. Here's How These Set Points Look: - Wow! Your new protocol for inner change is really starting to pay off! Then, suddenly something happens and you can no longer afford to pay for the support and resources that have helped you. Looks like you'll have to quit getting the extra support you need. - You've noticed your health improving and your new life style choices are really working! You have been feeling different, better, stronger and healthier! Then you splurge on sugar and alcohol, or any other food that negatively impact you. Suddenly you've fallen off the wagon and struggle to get back on track. - Your finances are starting to finally show improvement! You even have more money in your savings account. Bam! You're hit with a major expenditure that forces you to dip into your extra cash. There went your safety net! - You found something you love, and you're loving what you're doing. The extra resources are really paying off! Finally some alignment with your passion and purpose! Then, all of a sudden, life gets busy and hectic, and you're overwhelmed! Just like that, you've forgotten your passions, resources and you even missed the class that was helping you so much. - You now truly understand what it feels like to be in a nourishing relationship. You fall in love with someone new, and everything seems to be better than you thought possible. Then it's revealed. This person turns out to be the same old type you've always picked, which kicks you into a downward spiral of self deprecation. Can you really trust yourself to make better choices? - You are taking bold, powerful action steps- with clarity and purpose. You are finally aligned with your inner truth! Then suddenly something shifts. You no longer feel aligned with your power. All of a sudden your passion no longer has the juiciness or meaning it did. You start avoiding and neglecting your resources that helped you rise and shine. What happened? - Your spiritual path is zooming forward. You feel aligned, connected and clear. You have felt the growth- and others have even commented that you seem different. Your practices are starting to deeply impact you from the inside out. But suddenly, something comes up. You don't have time for your practice. It's impossible to fit it in to your life and schedule right now. You step back into your stress, overwhelm and uncertainty. Do any of these scenarios sound familiar? If so, you're likely getting hit by an inner set point. Just as progress and big shifts take place, you lose your momentum, get derailed and something comes along to pull you away from your progress. Sometimes this sabotage looks very innocent, or even accidental. Yet, it's vital to address the deeper, underlying issues. Why might you be resisting powerful, life-altering change? I see this happen a lot with my clients. Amazing things happen in my sessions. Big changes, monumental transformation and life changing results take place, often very swiftly. Just as soon as these big changes take place, some clients will disrupt their work with me. It doesn't make sense! It's not rational! Why would someone resist these powerful life changing effects? Why?! Their inner set points kick in to insure that success and sustainable change does not take place. In many cases, these inner set points will keep someone from even taking the first step of change. They won't ask for help, they refuse new resources or guidance. Sometimes this means they never come back for a second session. They crack the door open, but never walk through it. It's too terrifying to look. These inner set points are so powerful they can keep a person stuck in disempowerment for an entire lifetime. Others will create repeated cycles of success and failure, one step forward, two steps back, over and over and over again- staying stagnant indefinitely. I am well versed in how inner set points work, how they show up, and what it looks like to be stuck in old, limiting set points. I track these set points in my self diligently, as well as in my clients. The resources I use with my clients are powerful tools for transforming and changing old set points that keep you stuck. Working with me means that your life is guaranteed to change- often very swiftly. Some people are not ready for this type of lasting change. I get it. If you are ready to transform your set points- and insure that when they kick in (they always do)- that you have the support and resources you need to keep them from sabotaging your success, let's check in. Insuring that your old, limiting set points don't continue to sabotage your success, requires consistent support, resources and guidance in order for lasting change. Message me for the details and my next openings: swatijrjyotish@gmail.com The planetary transits in the coming months bring themes of disconnection and deep release. Some of this will be forced, uncomfortable and challenging. Many will be triggered by a range of emotions, mental body stories and old personal mythology rising to the surface. Read more about the challenging transits to come. How do you know if you are disempowered, disconnected from your inner source? When your breath is short, body is tight and mind is running the show, you are likely disconnected from your inner wisdom and power. This may present itself through emotional body reactions, mental stories that seem to be on repeat in your head, and physical body responses that constrict you, leaving you closed off to possibility, options, new choices.. Old patterns and behaviors that keep you locked in disempowerment or self sabotage are ways that you may be repeatedly disconnecting from your power. This can in fact be an addiction. Allowing yourself to repeatedly get sucked into old behaviors and patterns are likely the root of much of your disconnection and disempowerment. Can you catch yourself in the act? Deeper inner listening and self tracking are both essential for bringing your unconscious actions and choices to the surface, to your conscious awareness. This is where your power is. In the present moment. When you can intercept an old thought, behavior or spiral of thoughts and emotions, then you can make a different choice. Your power is firmly rooted in making choices. Choices that nourish and align with your highest intentions, rather than old, outworn and negative patterns and behaviors that lead to behaviors that don't really honor or serve you. Recently I had a very conscious interception of old thought patterns, and finally put my foot down. After days of self loathing and feeling like I had made some very poor choices- choices that resulted in deep heart break and sadness (again)- I realized this was a very old addiction for me. The addiction of beating myself up mentally for making a "bad" choice and then further spiraling down into "See, I've done it again" and even "I deserve this pain because of this bad choice." The addiction to these old stories has cost me much happiness and self love over the years. But this week, I took my power back. I stepped towards the story rather than letting it control me. I tapped it out. I danced it out. I painted it out and got it moving, rather than stuck inside of me. And then I said "NO". After closer investigation, I realized that this old pattern of spiraling down and down and down in self deprecation could actually be stopped- if I chose to stop it. So I did. I realized I could take my power back from these old thoughts, these old stories, and the behaviors that come with them. I took my power back. The reality is that I learned a lot from my recent painful choices and the grief that emerged through the heartbreak. They have made me wiser, more careful, and even expanded my compassion towards myself and others. That part feels good and should be celebrated. But staying stuck in the self inflicted pain is a choice. And because I became aware of my thoughts and emotions, I could also say "No more". I chose to reconnect, realign and re-establish my connection to my truth, my source, my inner knowing- my power. What does it feel like to be connected, empowered and aligned with your inner source? You've no doubt had these moments- often fleeting- yet memorable. Compelling enough that they inspire you to find ways to re-connect again and again. The body is the point of reconnection, the point of aligning with the NOW. Your body holds infinite wisdom and connects you to your source, Spirit and your inner knowing. When you are connected and aligned with your inner wisdom, your power, it often feels light, simple, easy and nourishing. Some feel joy, happiness and heart expansion swelling and opening the body, breath and feeling level. The dance of disconnection and reconnection is the epic journey of coming home- over and over again. It is the story of embodiment and establishing greater grounding, roots and resiliency- in order to ride the undulating waves and tumultuous storms of life. Reconnecting within body, mind, emotions and spirit are all essential for greater power, purpose and clarity with your being and your life! What do you do in the face of disconnection from your inner power? How do you find your way back to inner trust and certainty? What resources are your go-to tools for reconnection? Here are five ways to establish deeper, sustainable connection with your Self and your inner power. 5 Ways to Step Into Your Power Right now: 1) The point of power is in the now, this moment right now. You won't truly know the power of this moment without establishing a deeper sense of Self awareness. What is arriving right now within your inner landscape? What do you need right now in order to deepen your sense of reconnection? Do a Self audit. Self track every day. 2) Loosen the grip of triggers and painful stories. Move the mind and emotions and don't let them get stuck in your unconscious mind. Use my Tapping Meditation below to take back your power, get embodied and hear the wisdom of your inner knowing. 3) Track the planets and know what's impacting you right now. A deeper Self awareness comes from understanding the influences upon you. Then you can properly resource yourself. Knowing how the planets are impacting your mind, body and emotions, is a powerful step in bringing light (jyoti) to your conscious awareness. Jyotish prevents unnecessary suffering and helps you align with right action and choices. Track the planets daily, weekly, and monthly. 4) Study the layers of your inner wisdom. Know thyself. Your jyotish chart is the most potent resource of identification and self exploration you will ever receive. It is the map of your soul, shows you your life purpose, your reason for being alive. The short cut to understanding who you are and why you are alive, can be found through studying your jyotish chart. All the wisdom you need for greater, clarity and ease is written within your cosmic map. Deepen your jyotish studies and awaken your inner knowing with this. 5) Commit to your self growth and say yes to new resources and guidance. Consistent guidance and support makes the difference between success and failure in this life. You can't get new results when you continue to do the same thing and make the same choices. Lasting sustainable change comes when you start changing old patterns and stop repeating old behaviors. Big life changes occur when you get ongoing guidance and support, new resources and tools for success. Words I've been sharing with myself and clients recently: Take Your Power Back! 🐅✨ I love myself way too much to let your words hurt me. I love myself way too much to allow your own ignorance to touch me. I love myself way too much to allow your inability to self refer to impact me. I love myself too much and honor my inner wisdom so much, I can't allow your fear, your hate and your inner violence to penetrate my sacred center. It's unacceptable to me- to allow your ignorance to shame me, rip me down, make me feel insignificant and subordinate. No more. I take my power back. I take my power back because I can. I take my power back because my wisdom and inner knowing are valuable. I have my own genius, as everyone does. I honor my uniqueness and I honor my gifts. So I take my power back. I take my power back because this world needs women who can trust themselves, women who can affirm themselves, and women who can honor themselves- even when others try to rip them down. I take my power back so that I can help empower others. This world needs more of that. So you can take your shame, your blame, your dominance based ego elsewhere. I can see through all of that and it's not welcome here. I love myself and so I take my power back. (BONUS: Use the tapping points below and tap through these words of empowerment!) Tapping Meditation ~ Take Your Power Back! Tapping Meditation for More Power Use this Tapping Meditation when you feel stuck, afraid or resistant to change. When you get triggered by someone else or find yourself frozen in old patterns and behaviors. Remember that we always start with "truth tapping" by expressing feelings and experiences that feel challenging. This is a vital part of the process and paves the way for transformation and healing. In the podcast below, I share a tapping (EFT) sequence with you that will guide you through transforming and releasing the old stories and invite in more receptivity. Remember, we start with identifying the challenges, then moving into possibility and desires in order to transform our shadow into light. Use this podcast as you tap through these points: Karate chop point (side of the hand). Crown of the head. Eyebrow point (above the eye). Side of the eye. Under the eye. Under the nose. Chin point (crease of the chin). Throat point (collar bone/throat chakra). Heart point (center of chest). Stomach point (above the navel). Side body (nipple line at side of chest). Tap six to ten times on each point and just keep cycling through the points. Repeat the phrases I use aloud. Notice any thoughts, stories, memories or emotions that emerge as you tap. These are important pieces to return to, do more tapping on, as a way to clear blockages. As always, if the words I use don't work for you, change them to support your process more fully. Share your experiences below! What emerged for you in this process? Excited to hear from you! I am on a mission to help sensitive souls connect with their inner truth and inner wisdom. To connect with purpose and dharma. We need you now more than ever! Every week I offer two *free* dharma coaching sessions to action takers who are ready for deep life change. Is this you?! Send me a message to see if I have any openings: swatijrjyotish@gmail.com With all the big upheaval and changes that have recently taken place, I'd like to be able to say it's smooth sailing from here on out. I wish I could say that the transits will be agreeable and offer ease and simplicity for the next few months. That there will be a pause and some gentleness. Unfortunately, the upcoming transits show big changes in the weeks and months ahead, and through 2017. My intention is always to speak the sweet truth, so I will share the challenges here- with some important resources as well. Remember, there are always gifts! It may be more challenging to find them in the coming days, but moving closer to what you are grateful for is a balm for the heart. This is a particularly tumultuous time. Unlike anything I've seen before- because there are multiple layers of challenges impacting us simultaneously. The aggression being stirred in the environment is activating individuals very acutely, and individuals are intensifying the collective energy as well. The churning is extreme right now. In the Vedic literature, demon god, Rahu, was instrumental in the churning of the ocean of milk. The gods realized that by churning the ocean of milk, they could extract some Amrita, the divine nectar of immortality (like churned cream becomes butter). But they couldn't do it alone. They had to employ the support of the demons (asuras) to create the momentum needed. The demons and gods worked together and the Amrita rose to the top, but the asuras ended up stealing it for themselves. The gods fought back and with the support of Vishnu (the sustaining force of dharma) they were able to regain the Amrita. Vishnu gave each one of the gods a drop of the immortal nectar, but Rahu (Svarbhanu) received a drop accidentally. Rahu was positioned in between the Sun and the Moon as he received the nectar, and they recognized him at once. Vishnu chopped Rahu in half with a chakra and thus Rahu (head of the serpent) and Ketu (tail of the serpent) were born. Rahu continues to chase the Sun and Moon out of disdain. The formless entities Rahu and Ketu are representative of the unseen forces at play within all humans. Rahu drives the cravings and the appetite for this material world, while Ketu forces the inevitable release process, severing us from worldly attachments. Right now, this epic "churning" is taking place very acutely- inside of you and on the world stage. You are likely feeling this within mind and emotions directly. But all you have to do is look at what is taking place within our society right now to see how this churning is impacting the world- socially, politically, environmentally, etc. What is activating this dynamic right now is the Kala Sarpa Yoga effects. Sarpa means snake in Sanskrit, which is intensifying the serpent energy in extreme ways right now. Rahu is transiting through Leo and Ketu in Aquarius which is creating highs and lows and activating polarities very elaborately. Once the Kala Sarpa Yoga officially ends on January 20th when Mars shifts into Pisces, there will be some leveling out, but the churning will continue with the impact of Ketu. Read more about Kala Sarpa Yoga's effects. In the coming weeks and months, there will be an increase of Ketu's cutting energy. Ketu is the tail of the serpent who brings release, cutting of attachments and forced letting go. He brings liberation, ultimately, but usually not without pain. He can also show you specifically where there is trauma in your natal chart, as his detachment causes disconnection on multiple levels- physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. On December 9th, Rahu shifts into a Ketu ruled nakshatra, Magha. This nakshatra is considered one of the three gandantas- junction points between water and fire signs. These portals are particularly notorious for creating immense transformation and change. Ketu is currently transiting a Rahu ruled nakshatra, Satabisha. This exchange between Rahu and Ketu will bring to light much of the darkness and deception that seems so illusive right now. Nothing is what it seems. The Sarpa (serpent) energy being activated right now is increasing the extreme highs and lows taking place inner and outer. Things go well and support comes, but then this is taken or it vanishes somehow. All is illusive and in constant change. The shift of Rahu into Magha will activate the ancestors and increase the forced cutting and release process taking place currently. Magha brings magnanimous action and a royal spirit with profound accomplishment and visibility. It's shadow side is excess ego, misuse of masculine power and extreme or aggressive force. As the necessity for being in right-relationship with the masculine energy comes to the surface right now, notice where you are pushing too hard and forcing outcomes. Notice where your ego is controlling you, rather than heart and spirit. Learning the art of detachment and release is an important lesson right now. We are also learning how to integrate extremes and polarities very intimately. Working with the spine very specifically is an important resource right now. Track sensations in your spine and use this as a resource for finding greater stability and support within. As the new Moon in Scorpio arrives, the coming cycle brings an even greater necessity for integration, harmony and balance with your polarities and extremes. Let your spine lead the way as it is the Maha channel of integration for the entire body. As Sarpa (snake) energy continues to activate and intensify in the coming weeks, illusions and deceptions come to the light. Are you willing to look at your own shadows? Your own darkness is being mirrored to you through others- in challenging and confrontational ways right now. Look deeply within and clear away your darkness. Bring it to the light. Let your body and spine support this integration process of merging shadow and light. Stay connected to sensations in the spine. Listen for messages. Ask your spine to speak to you. What do you hear? Track this closely in the coming days. The body has all the wisdom you seek. The theme of forced cutting and release will be amplified as a series of planets march through Sagittarius and Mula nakshatra in the coming weeks and months and through 2017. Mula is a Ketu ruled nakshatra, which is notorious for uprooting and forced releases. We've already experienced Mars and Venus transiting this challenging gandanta recently (the gap between water and fire signs that are particularly connected to untying knots within the psyche). Mercury begins his lengthy passage through Sagittarius on the 28th of November, marching in and out of Mula nakshatra several times between now and February. Sun shifts into Sagittarius next, creating big changes starting December 15th. Then Saturn arrives in Sagittarius for a few months, beginning January 26th. Why do these transits provoke such change and upheaval? Both Mula and Magha are gandanta points which trigger extreme inner turmoil and change. Gandantas are points in the zodiac between water signs and fire signs (Pisces/Aries, Cancer/Leo, Scorpio/Sagittarius). These points are notorious for causing immense upheaval, as deeply rooted knots within your being get released. Both Mula and Magha are nakshatras situated in these powerful gaps that trigger immense change processes to take place. Both nakshatras are also ruled by Ketu, a non planet notorious for sudden release, forced letting go and remarkable changes. His goal is to support your moksha, liberation, to release you from your attachments. Mula nakshatra is ruled by the dark goddess, Nirrti, responsible for adharmic activity- that which is against dharma. She is notorious for causing chaos, calamity and misfortune, while also pulling you from your dharmic path. There is a risk in the coming months of losing your path, getting stuck in the storm of uncertainty, confusion and misalignment. If you find yourself lacking clarity about your life purpose, or confusion seems to increase, it's time to seek support and guidance. Resources, guidance and support will be even more important at this time because it will be so easy to fall into the chaos and confusion that Nirrti provokes. With great diligence however, this can also be a time of strengthening your determination, focus and alignment with dharma. Do not lose hope. Do not get lost in Nirrti's perfect storm. Stay connected and aligned with your dreams, desires, goals and passions. These are important resources to help you honor your dharmic path. As Mercury moves through Mula nakshatra on November 28th, the uprooting will take place especially in the mental body and all things impacted by Mercury including money, communication, commerce, technology, imagination and creativity. Read more about Mercury in Sagittarius. Sun's movement through Mula nakshatra begins December 15th and lasts until the 28th. This will impact the masculine energy very directly. We've already been experiencing the extremes of the weak masculine taking its toll in overtly aggressive and egocentric ways. As this energy continues to rise to the surface, exposing its self, it also loses its power. The passage of Sun through Mula will be a cleansing of sorts, an untying of the deeply embedded knots that keep you from your divine feminine wisdom. Notice where you are resisting this new way of being. Allow a softening and ease to arrive through deeper surrender. Being in right relationship with your masculine energy requires a new expression of what it means to feel safe, supported, clear and focused. What are you refusing to let go of? Notice where your ego and its sense of righteous indignation (I'm right, you're wrong) gets in the way of your compassion and loving kindness. This includes self compassion! On January 26th, Saturn leaves Scorpio, entering Sagittarius and Mula nakshatra. He will stay in Mula nakshatra until June 21st of 2017. Part of this transit includes his retrograde dance back through this chaotic gandanta. Saturn will retrograde on April 5th, 2017. Saturn will then re-enter Scorpio on June 21st for another four months, before re-entering Sagittarius and Mula nakshatra once again for his 2.5 year transit through this fire sign. This ongoing lengthy transit will be the most provocative and transformational since Saturn is the slowest moving planet and the grief giver. He impacts the physical body directly and brings ongoing duress because he is so heavy, old and slow. As the planet of grief, this is also an important time to pull out the roots of grief that have been living in your bodies unconsciously. Attending to your grief process and healing old wounds will be especially important in 2017. Everyone will be forced on some level to look directly at their suffering and pain. Hopefully this will bring new awareness. As challenging as this Saturn transit will be for many, it is also an opportunity to do some very powerful healing work in ways that will support deep, lasting change for the physical body. Saturn has not transited Sagittarius since December of 1987. You might recall what took place for you from the end of 1987 to December 1990, the length of Saturn's transit through Sagittarius. This will give you a good idea of what to expect in the next few years. You can also look at your jyotish chart and notice where Sagittarius is for you specifically. I share more details about how to assess your chart in my Jyotish Mastermind. Listen for free until November 30th. As painful as this process of letting go will be in the coming months, it's also an opportunity for great change and transformation. Release and letting go allows new space and possibility to arrive- on all levels of your being. How you work with your pain, grief and challenges will determine your outcome. Remember that there's always a resource hidden in the challenges. The trick is to find them! It will be important to get extra support, resources and guidance in the months to come. Do not lose sight of your visions and dreams, goals and aspirations. Stay close to your body and breath and deepen your inner roots. Use resources to help you expand your creativity and what you think is possible for yourself. Try to keep life as simple and stable as possible. This past month of debilitated Sun is finally complete. Now the light will begin to strengthen in the coming weeks. As Sun passes through Scorpio, your depths will be called upon, as well as grief, unconscious programming and past pain. Read more about Sun in Scorpio. There have been many complicated transits and increased challenges for months now. Once the Kala Sarpa yoga completes in January, some of the big highs and lows will start to even out. Right now, integration, balance and harmony between extreme polarities- inner and outer- is key. Exalted Mars in Capricorn is sparking anger, violence and aggression right now. Sun in Scorpio can intensify these strong emotions, if we are not doing our inner work. Anger is in fact a powerful emotion, a change agent. It reminds you that a boundary has been crossed, that something feels unfair, that you have been wronged in some way. When you experience anger, there is an opportunity to find clarity about your needs and step into your power with more purpose. Far too often though, anger becomes an unconscious reactive emotion that never gets to truly serve its purpose- to wake you up! Right now, the planet and particularly the United States, is being called into action. So many are feeling very old, deeply embedded anger and rage rise to the surface. You may be feeling anger as a result of your own personal mythology, as well as a result of the collective consciousness. Allowing your anger to move through you is potent medicine. But even more important than it's movement, is actually harvesting from this emotion. Understanding the deeper layers of your anger can help you awaken to needs, more nourishment and empowerment. What you don't want to do is suppress your anger, or use it in ways that harm yourself and others. Systemically suppressed anger can become depression- which is ultimately a result of resisting your power. Anger is in fact a resource for tapping into your power, purpose and dharma! Here Are Four Ways to Release Anger Right Now: #1 Anger is often a first response emotion. It can become an addiction to feel anger- especially if this is the way you learned how to feel and express. Anger happens to be the most socially acceptable emotion, so most people default to anger quite easily. Step number one is to get into the habit of checking in with the four levels of your being and do a self audit. This process can help you identify the experiences happening within your inner landscape so you don't disconnect from your body and emotions. Do A Self Audit #2 What are you angry about? Who are you angry at? Consider this your challenge. Now use my Challenge Creative Ritual to identify, move and transform your anger into potent awareness. #3 Move your anger safely. Release anger and rage by screaming, yelling, punching pillows, throwing things (without harming yourself or anyone/anything else) and stomping. Get the sound of your anger out in a safe, contained space. Let the emotion move out and through your body. #4 Tap and Rant. EFT is a powerful resource for moving emotions- especially anger. Tap on the heart point in the center of the chest or tap through the points as you speak your anger aloud. Don't hold back. Tapping through the points as you express your anger, will support its movement and release, without it getting stuck in your body. Need some extra support? Use my Tapping Meditation Podcast for Big Emotions. #5 Ready to change your relationship with big emotions- especially challenging emotions like anger, grief and sadness? Get the Details This is the last chance to join Awakening Through Grief as we've already started classes! Here's to your embodied and empowered path. One that is a re-connection of body, emotions, mind and spirit! Swati* There is something no one seems to be talking about in regard to loss, grief and death. Everyone is effected by grief. Everyone. The majority of people are resistant to the word, let alone the work it takes to heal, transform and digest this incredibly powerful part of being a human. Most people are jumping over their losses, never fully digesting them, nor integrating them into their body, or their life. Without proper integration physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, grief gets pushed deep within the bodies, resulting in multiple challenges, disturbances and dis-eases. I've been talking a lot lately about undigested grief and even worse, hidden grief. These are very real issues that are effecting in all honesty, everyone, to some degree. It's not a radical notion to say that everyone on the planet is grieving- whether they are conscious of it or not. Grief is real. It's a real part of life. Whether you want to look at it directly, or push it away and negate it, it's still a part of your life- consciously or unconsciously. Grief indicates that you've experienced a loss on some level- either big or small. These losses really add up. Part of the grief journey that no one is talking about, is the impact all of your life losses have on your finances. It's amazing to me that this is never part of the grief conversation. Debts, lack of money, an inability to make, save or acquire money, are all issues related to loss, to grief. Particularly grief that has not been properly attended to- meaning it hasn't been fully digested or integrated. Any loss that you've experienced in your life gets stored in your body memory. It's a part of your life and will impact you- your future choices, actions, behaviors, and experiences. Money is nothing more than a physical resource of nourishment, life force energy. It's a human created expression of abundance, the wealth of nature and her bounty. The ability to receive money, is intimately connected to your ability to receive nourishment- on all levels of life- which includes physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. This is why the wealth houses of the jyotish chart are also the houses of eating, digesting and giving (2nd, 6th and 10th houses). If you can't eat the nourishment, digest it and assimilate its nutrients fully, you also won't have much of an offering to give to the world. You will have very little life force energy in which to express your powerful gift. . If your channels are blocked by undigested grief, you won't be able to receive or create vitality, or life force energy. This lack of life force energy impacts your receptivity, your ability to receive nourishment, directly. What happens when years and years of undigested grief and losses are not honored and healed? Debts pile up (literally your losses pile up). Houses 6 and 8 in your jyotish chart are also houses of digestion, stomach and elimination. They are considered the most challenging houses of the chart, causing serious health issues and not surprisingly are both connected to losses, debt and financial struggles. Simply put, when you clean up your bodies (physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually) and process, clear and release the undigested emotions and experiences of life, you have much more receptivity. You literally have more ability to give and receive life force energy. On the material level of life, this means you have the ability to give and receive more money as well. Lakshmi is a powerful embodiment of this free flowing energy within the channels of the body. The golden coins pouring from her palms, express the abundance of nourishment- inside and out. Health is wealth! But when any of the four bodies are clogged with toxic byproducts of undigested food, experiences and emotions, the channels of the body will not be open and awake. A dullness will set in and this will impact all levels of your life- even your relationship with money. Almost every single person who has inquired about my nine month Awakening Through Grief Course has shared money problems are impacting their decision to join the course. Debt has been a very personal part of my grief process as well. I know there is a direct correlation between grief and money, because I've experienced it personally. One of the most direct correlations between grief and money challenges has to do with stability and support. When you've experienced a loss- whether large or small- it impacts your stability, your sense of support. This instability impacts your sense of safety- personally, physically, as well as materially. Your experience of life and the world around you becomes destabilized. So it makes sense that because money represents safety and support, as well as comfort and stability, when life is feeling unstable and unsafe, your money will be impacted as well. Money is energy, so it will reflect your feelings. If you don't feel safe, your money will show it. When you clear, clean, heal and transform grief, and allow the emotional body to find greater resiliency, this has a positive impact on your receptivity, your ability to receive nourishment- including money. That is why I've created a nine month course Awakening Through Grief, to support the healing and transformation of your grief. To help you digest, heal and integrate losses- on all four levels of your being- physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. This very unique nine month course is not just about healing grief, it is really about allowing you to integrate your losses with life, so that you can experience more resiliency, more life force energy. When you clean up your undigested grief, you suddenly have a lot more space to create, manifest, align and receive the nourishment of life more fully! The work that we do in this course will help you heal, transform and release grief- whether it's impacting you physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually- or all of the above. Join me for a nine month journey into Heart and Spirit!
Digest and heal your grief and losses. Come back to greater life, nourishment and abundance! JOIN THIS SACRED JOURNEY Last Chance to Join Awakening Through Grief is October 26th!! As the Moon shifts into the first tithi of the waxing Moon cycle, the sacred nine day and night celebration of Maha Navaratri begins. Nava means nine and ratri means night in Sanskrit. Each day and night of this powerful junction point, correlates to the epic battle between the goddess Sri Devi Mahatmyam and the demon Mahishasura. Maha Devi Mahatmyam is connected to both Durga and Shakti, powerful forms of divine feminine energy that awaken, clear, transform and heal. Sri Devi is understood to be the supreme creation power of the universe, the Tridevi, or triple goddess, as she expresses the creation, sustaining and destructive energies that perpetuate all forms of life. In the sacred text known as the Sri Devi Mahatmyam, composed between 400 and 600 CE, the many forms of the goddess are expressed. "She is presented, through a language of praise, as the one who dwells in all creatures, as the soul, as the power to know, the power to will and the power to act. She is consciousness of all living beings, she is intelligence, she is matter, and she is all that is form or emotion." - Via Wikipedia During the nine day and night Navaratri celebration, the battle between light and dark forces enlivens, ending on the 10th day with Victory Day, Vijaya Dashami. This battle between light and dark, good and bad, masculine and feminine, transformation and healing, is taking place within all beings at this sacred junction point. It is a time to heal and integrate polarities within. During Chaitra Navaratri in the spring, the ninth day is celebrated as the birth day of Lord Ram, called Ram Navami. The Navaratri celebration is an expression of what is taking place within Nature, through the Laws that govern Nature, marking an important transition within us and around us. These important junction points (know as a gap, or sandhi in Sanskrit) happen multiple times a year, however, the Shardiya, or Maha Navaratri, junction point is considered the most powerful. This is a death cycle for both Northern and Southern hemispheres. As life is being called into silence in the North, and called into action for the South. In either case, doors are opening and closing. Align with Nature and Her powerful energy of change and transformation during Navaratri. Ritualize your connections with Nature- in order to land more closely to your own inner wisdom, to Her wisdom. Strengthen your connection to self and Spirit. Navaratri is a poignant time in the Vedic Calendar. This ancient calendar is one that is dedicated to Nature and her cycles and rhythms, the planets, and most importantly the Moon. In the Vedic Calendar, time is connected to what Nature and the cosmos are doing, and these elements are intimately related. Navaratri occurs several times a year, though the main celebrations are twice a year- in the "gap" seasons of spring and fall. These times are considered sandhi times; delicate times that feel like you are neither here, nor there. We might call it the netherworld. This time, though delicate, is considered sacred. In the spring, Navaratri marks the "waking up" of the devis or the goddesses; the aspects of Natural Law that enliven growth, abundance, prosperity, learning, well being, change and transformation. In the fall, Navaratri invites in destruction, removal, change, transformation and healing. The goddesses Durga, Saraswati and Lakshmi symbolize these parts of life and Nature, while also being parts of our own innate being. The three of them together represent our wholeness, the trinity of life, alive in and around us. These three goddesses also connect to Shakti, the goddess who gives the spark of life to every being, to Nature, and to existence. Fall Navaratri, or Maha Navaratri, is by far the most potent as it brings deep transformation and the ability to remove, destroy, release and transform, our darkness into light. The holy trinity of goddesses supports this process and allows us to let go of what needs to be released in order for greater nourishment. As we let go of our darkness, an increase of light and wisdom can take its place. This process is marked by Durga's powerful battle against the demon Mahishasura. On the 10th day, she destroyed him and was victorious. This day is called Vijaya Dashami (Dashami is the 10th lunar day of the Moon cycle, connected to dharma). This is a nine day and night celebration that is divided into three parts. The first three days are dedicated to the goddess Durga. Her warrior spirit cleanses, shifts, uproots, changes and transforms. Think of her as tilling the soil, prior to planting seeds. The next three days of celebration are dedicated to Lakshmi. Her abundance, nurturing, and wealth offer nourishment and support to us on all levels of life. Health is the ultimate wealth and Lakshmi brings this support as well. Finally, we have three days dedicated to goddess Saraswati. She gives us knowledge, understanding, wisdom, creativity and artistry. She is the rasayana (or healing balm) if you will to close this sacred nine day celebration. Together, these three goddesses bring wholeness, renewal, and the life giving offerings of Shakti. This creative life-force energy is truly what inspires life, living and abundance. It is at this time that we can connect to these three goddesses most easily- inside of us, and around us. Because of this, Navaratri is considered a very sacred and powerful time of year- one that influences our inner and outer experience of life for months to come. To connect with the goddesses more closely, make special offerings on your altar for them during the nine days. You can also dedicate your actions and intentions to them for greater communication. Connecting to fire and stoking the internal flame (or agni) can be valuable for the first three days of Durga. You may wish to write intentions that focus on empowerment and action steps for the coming months as well. Using self development tools to transform negative thoughts and mental body stories, will be well supported at this time. During the three days of Lakshmi, bring sweets and flowers to your altar, cook nourishing foods for your Self, decorate and adorn your Self. This is a time to focus on self care diligently. For the final portion of Navaratri, dedicated to Saraswati, music, art and poetry can be a good way to focus your energy, efforts and intentions. Use creativity, artistry and embodiment resources for grounding and landing in your intentions. Use one of my Creative Rituals for support with this process. On this first day and night of Navaratri, notice what's arriving. I have experienced that the first three days of Navaratri initiate the changes and transformations you are working with in this release cycle. Often you must confront challenges and obstacles as a result. More nourishment and support is coming, but you can't receive it without this important step. What is arriving? What parts of your personal mythology are showing up as a mirror for you? How can you clear more space within? Let Durga's fierce warrior energy initiate and provoke awareness. Emotionally, you may feel anger, pain, frustration or sadness emerge in the coming days. Physically you may need more rest or silence. Mentally you may need more inward reflection as well as time for meditation. Spiritually, you may need time with nature and rituals that help you land in deeper presence. Understand that this is a part of the change and transformation process. Where can you land into deeper presence with your needs? As you deepen your intention for this Navaratri celebration, find meaningful rituals for yourself that bring you closer to spirit. Spend time in nature and in meditation. Listening to Durga mantras right now is excellent for inviting in her presence. Traditionally, listening to Chandi Path recitations is also encouraged. During this sacred and potent time, treat your Self like the goddess that you are and share your abundance with others. May we each remember our abundant true nature, our immense creative life giving energy! Read more about Navaratri from Vaidya Rama Kant Mishra, renowned Shaka Vansya Ayurvedic Doctor. I've been bumping up against so many unmet needs recently. This process of confronting all my holes and emptiness intensified today. All the places in me where I feel empty. Places within where I don't feel nourished. These many places of malnourishment. The places in me that can't seem to get what they really need. This shows up as dissatisfaction, disappointment and loneliness. It is the part of me that feels separate from others and resists the nourishment it actually yearns for. This place. I took an unconscious, silent vow a long time ago. This vow has meant that I must stay in the role of giving and support. Support for my family and their needs; to be the caretaker in the tribe. I took this vow as a child in order to get certain needs met, to survive. I learned the duty of giving, yet I now lack the skill of asking for what I need, and the ability to fully receive. Receiving is vulnerable territory. I wasn't taught how to be in the role of receiving or how to ask for my needs to be met. As a result, many needs continue to go unmet. The malnourishment continues to emerge and the fear of being vulnerable enough to ask for what I really need, feels overwhelming. My mother was a powerful giver. She affirmed her love in extraordinary ways to me- daily. She showed up for me, spoke words of love and affirmation continually and constantly reminded me that I was loved and cherished, that I was a special part of this universe. Since her sudden passing several years ago, this void within me has deepened. It has felt impossible to fill my daily love quotient. So I have just about given up. But these needs have not gone away. In fact, they are now starting to get louder. The emptiness is starting to be more forceful with me these days. The painful emotions emerging recently have been helping me identify what it is that I truly need. There are many needs. But today, I identified the biggest need right now: hearing words of affirmation; knowing that others see me and honor me for who I am, how I am. Part of me is still too terrified to really ask for these needs to be met in my intimate relationships. Part of me is still too afraid of being this vulnerable. So I took these needs and these emotions with me on my evening walk. I tapped (EFT) on the pain- speaking aloud the story and the feelings, the emptiness, the vulnerability, the lack. I started to move these heavy emotions and the old stories; the wounding of always being in the support role and how uncomfortable it feels to fully receive. I tapped out this old story of my vow, my duty, to care take others and the weight of this responsibility. On the other side of this story and these emotions, I found an opening. I decided I needed to created a new practice. A practice to honor my needs and to actually practice how to express these needs. A way to actually practice how to ask for my needs to be met. I invite you to join me in this practice of asking for your needs to be met. It's a simple practice, but one that takes courage. Step 1) Every day check in with your inner landscape. Start with a four level check in. Notice what's arriving on the four levels of your being. Pay close attention to the emotional body. If you've been following along with my posts the past few weeks, I've been sharing resources specifically for the emotional body. By now you've heard me say that the emotional body helps us get our needs met. Why?! Because underneath the emotion you are feeling is in fact a need. A need that is either being met- or not being met. Your job is to ask and inquire about the underlying need. What is the need underneath the emotion? Step 2) Identify what you need and find your words. For example say: "I need to hear that I matter." or "I need to hear that I'm cherished, loved and supported." Today, I actually needed to hear that "life is going to turn out OK." Stick to the statement "I need" for now. Be as specific as you can. This is part of the practice. Identifying exactly what your need is. Notice how you want this need to be met- verbally, with an action, with presence, etc. Step 3) Vocalize what you need. The next step is to practice sharing your need with at least five close family or friends. People that you trust and feel safe with. Ask them exactly what you need and how you need them to show up for you. I encourage you to practice this daily. Check in with what you need, identify how you need this to be met, then practice expressing this need to others. Pay close attention to the tone of your words as you speak your needs. Make sure you are asking from a place of loving kindness. You can also practice texting or emailing your needs to others. Step 4) Receive. The last piece is to receive the nourishment arriving. Allow yourself to be fed. When someone responds to your request with affirmation, presence or an action, allow yourself to receive it. How does it feel when your need is honored, when it is met? Where do you feel this in your body? Drop into the receptive and do so consciously. This is practice for arriving in receiving. A process of eating and digesting the nourishment of life. I started this practice tonight. After receiving many offerings of love and gratitude, verbal nourishment, I feel full. My heart feels softer, gentler, more accepting and willing to surrender to life. I will be continuing this practice of receiving. Let's practice together! Share your experiences with me below. Remember when you share a comment here, you are connecting directly with me. This conversation about the emotional body and getting your needs met is so vital. Why does this matter? Who cares about feeling? About leaning in to the emotional body? What's the point of all of this feeling?! It's hard work. It's challenging. It takes courage and devotion to continually arrive. To keep showing up for your feelings. I would be lying if I said it was easy. But here's the truth: The purpose of the emotional body is not just to expand your experience as a human being, but to help you get the nourishment you need in this life. The nourishment that you so desperately yearn for. This task of emotional body literacy is not easy for this one reason. It's part of your soul's journey to be well fed by life- to get what it what it needs in order to thrive. It's a process of growth, stretching, leaning in, creating, creating again, re-shaping, endlessly trying. Like a plant, reaching towards the sunlight. The first step is to show up for your emotional body. To practice this arriving. Then you can harvest the needs underneath the emotions. Once you arrive in this place of identification, of confrontation, of discovery... now what?! You've found your core need, but what do you do about it? The majority of your needs can be met- somehow, some way. They can be discovered and uncovered. They can be used as resources to get the nourishment you need. This is an empowering place to arrive. But what happens when needs can't be met? What happens when needs have no way of being resolved? This is the territory, the inner terrain, I find myself in right now- as I navigate deep grief and loss. I'm approaching the anniversary of my mother's sudden passing. I'm identifying so many needs. So many needs that are a result of this loss. My heart longs for her. It longs for the way that she showed up in my life. Ways that no one else can satisfy. What do you do with these needs? The needs that are connected to loss, to grief, to the holes that can't be filled? I need her voice. I need her touch. I need her daily reminders. I need her affirmations. I need the way she chose to support me with her unyielding love, with her loving words. This is the hole that can't be filled. No matter how many affirmations I receive. No matter how many relationships choose to show up for me with presence. No matter how many times I declare my needs to others, this hole remains. I'm hearing these needs loud and clear. I'm choosing to attend to my grief with intention and devotion right now. Honoring these wounds within that can never be filled. The void. The holes. Left by loss. I am conscious about navigating this inner space. I know I could fill it mindlessly. I know I could throw things and people and food and avoidance into this hole. Part of me wants to be rescued- by my boyfriend, by family members or friends, by someone or something; a dangerous desire that will only create more malnourishment. I know this dangerous road because I've tried all the most popular avoidance tactics. Most people choose the unconscious path. The path of mindlessly filling voids and holes- all the places that long for stillness and presence. But instead I choose to linger. In the vastness of my pain. In the emptiness of these inner longings. In the longing. For my mother. For my father. For the nourishment and love only they can provide. I'm conscious of the fact that huge needs are present in me. That I want them to find wholeness. And yet- no one can actually be or say or arrive as my mother would. As my father would. I'm conscious of this. And yet the pain remains. And yet the needs remain. How do I attend to these needs with presence, with heart-centered devotion? How to reach out and ask for support with these gaping needs? Can these needs truly be attended to? There is no healing, truly. There is only change and co-creation. There is awakening to, arriving. There is the simplicity of this moment and that moment. There are moments of nourishment and moments that beckon for more. So I dance. I create. I sing and make music. I express it and share my pain. And I encounter this longing within- again and again. I notice all the ways in which it could drive me to unconsciousness, to avoidance, to resistance, to anger at other people. I notice how this hole within me stings and bites- myself and others. This hole, with its many needs, is teaching me to stay present. It is keeping me conscious, present. It keeps me returning to this place of emptiness within- again and again. It is my reminder that some things cannot be fixed. It is my reminder that there is actually nothing to fix. It is a space within that could drive me to more unconsciousness or it can move me towards greater consciousness. In my life, this painful hole, is teaching me the power of my grief journey. It is the power of awakening through loss. I know many of you understand the challenges, hardship, and the deep pain of loss. I know you're navigating grief- likely alone, in isolation, without the holding and support that you need. Like so many, we do this powerful grief work alone. But I know your grief is begging you to reach out and extend your branches, to get your needs met- in new ways, more conscious ways. I am committed to supporting you in your path awakening, helping you transform your pain into fertile, creative space. Space that can lead you to possibility, openness and joy. It's a powerful time of year for turning inward. In the coming days, I'll be sharing special resources for those of you walking the grief journey- who want to use this pain, hardship and loss as a path of profound spiritual awakening. I'll also be sharing more about a special offering for those of you who are ready to heal and awaken through your darkness. Did you miss out on my Space Clearing the Heart workshop?!
